In a statement filled with resolute criticism, the Bauchi Accountability and Truth Awareness Front (BATA) has openly challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over what it describes as politically motivated actions targeting officials of the Bauchi State government.

At the heart of this dispute is the EFCC’s arrest of Alhaji Sirajo Mohammed Jaja, the Accountant General of Bauchi State, as part of a N70 billion fraud investigation that has controversially been linked to Governor Bala Mohammed.

BATA strongly decried the investigation, emphasizing that it undermines the integrity of the state’s leadership and jeopardizes the stability of progress achieved under the current administration.

Lawal Sani Ningi, chairman of the organization, described the EFCC’s actions as a calculated attempt to tarnish the reputation of Bauchi officials, pointing to the timing of the arrests as evidence of ulterior motives.

The group expressed alarm over the direct association of Governor Bala Mohammed with the ongoing investigation, describing it as a strategy to distract from the governor’s achievements in infrastructure, governance, and social welfare.

According to Ningi, the governor has consistently prioritized the welfare of the people, and these allegations not only lack merit but also threaten to overshadow the significant advancements made under his administration.

BATA further criticized the EFCC’s approach, stressing that the agency must adhere to the principles of justice, fairness, and transparency in its anti-corruption efforts. The organization questioned the lack of concrete evidence presented in support of the allegations, warning against the dangers of relying on unsubstantiated claims to drive investigations.

In its statement, the group called for vigilance among citizens of Bauchi State during this period of heightened political activity, urging them to remain discerning and to avoid being influenced by sensational narratives that could hinder collective progress.

It reaffirmed its unwavering support for Governor Bala Mohammed and the state’s leadership, emphasizing its commitment to justice, transparency, and truth in governance.
