The Governments of Nigeria and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering bilateral defence cooperation with the signing of a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) involving the German Technical Advisory Group (GTAG).
This longstanding agreement, in place for 12 years and renewed every four years, was formalized during a ceremony held at Ship House, Abuja.
The Permanent Secretary of Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence, Ambassador Gabriel Tanimu Aduda, described the MoU as a strategic funding arrangement that reflects the robust defence relationship between the two nations.
He highlighted that the agreement aligns with their shared objectives, emphasizing its role in fostering long-term security collaboration and advancing developmental goals.
Ambassador Aduda reaffirmed the Nigerian government’s dedication to ensuring accountability and efficiency in implementing the agreement.
He stressed the importance of adhering to strict timelines, rigorous monitoring, and comprehensive evaluations to guarantee value for money in all procurement aspects.
Colonel Boris Bovekemp, Defence Attaché of Germany to Nigeria, expressed Germany’s steadfast commitment to enhancing cooperation in defence, security, and capacity-building initiatives.
He lauded the enduring partnership between the two nations and emphasized the necessity of strengthening their agreements to address evolving security challenges.
This renewed MoU signifies another milestone in Nigeria and Germany’s defence partnership, reinforcing collaborative efforts in security enhancement, capacity development, and technical cooperation.
