The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has summoned Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II of Kano for questioning following allegations of violating the recently imposed ban on Eid-el-Fitr Sallah Durbar celebrations.

In a letter dated April 4, 2025, the police directed the emir to appear at the Force Intelligence Department headquarters in Abuja on April 8, 2025, for investigations.Emir of Kano Summoned by Police Over Alleged Sallah Durbar Ban Violation

The controversy stems from police-imposed restrictions in Kano just days before the Sallah festivities, aimed at preventing potential unrest.

This ban prohibited traditional Durbar activities such as horse rides and car races. Although Emir Sanusi publicly canceled preparations to adhere to the directive, earlier interrogations targeted some of his traditional title holders.

The police’s actions have raised concerns in Kano, with fears that the emir’s invitation might provoke demonstrations from his supporters.

Meanwhile, attempts to get an official response from the Kano State Government have been unsuccessful, as the Commissioner for Information, Abdullahi Ibrahim Waiya, remains unreachable.
