Lagos-Ibadan Expressway: How Seven Died in Multi-Vehicle Accident, over 24 Lives Lost since January 2025

A tragic multiple-vehicle accident claimed seven lives and injured four others along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday morning. The incident involved 15 people—13 men and 2 women—and was reported by Florence Okupe, the Route Commander and Chief Public Education Officer of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector.

The crash was attributed to excessive speed, which caused a Mack truck to lose control and collide with two other vehicles. The fatalities included six men and one woman, while the injured victims comprised three men and one woman.

According to Okupe, the injured were rushed to Divine Touch Hospital and Glory Center Hospital, Ibafo, while the deceased were taken to Idera Morgue in Sagamu. Vehicles involved in the accident were promptly removed to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Sector Commander Fasakin Akinwumi visited the crash site to initiate further investigations. He expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and advised them to contact FRSC Ibafo for assistance.

The Street Reporters Newspaper reports that as of April 6, 2025, at least 24 individuals have died in accidents on the Lagos-lbadan Expressway since the beginning of the year. Notable incidents include the January 19 accident involving a Mercedes-Benz SUV near Fatgbems Bus Stop which resulted in five fatalities (three men and two women) and one injury.

On January 29 another accident involving a Toyota Sienna crash near Redemption Camp led to one death and five injurie while the February 24 collision involving a Toyota Hiace bus and a stationary truck around Ayetoro claimed nine lives (Six men and three women) and injured three others.

On March 9, a lone accident involving a vehicle marked FKJ 570 YE resulted in four deaths (two men and two women) and nine injuries.

These figures are based on reported incidents and may not represent the total number of fatalities on the expressway since January, 2025.

The unfortunate accidents underscore the critical need for adherence to speed limits and caution to prevent such devastating occurrences.
