Businessman Raises Alarm Over Alleged Defamation Campaign

A prominent businessman, Mr Boniface Okoli has raised concerns over what he describes as a coordinated effort to tarnish his reputation.
Okoli emphasized his commitment to transparency and stated that he will not be intimidated by “baseless smear campaigns to tarnish his hard earned image and reputation. He raised the alarm over what he described as a campaign of calumny being orchestrated against him by certain individuals who see him as a threat to their business.
In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, he alleged that false information is being circulated via a planned Press Briefing with the intent to damage his credibility and business interests. While he did not name specific individuals or entities, he indicated that legal action may be pursued against those found responsible.
Okoli said the plan is being orchestrated by certain individuals, who are allegedly competing with him in the same line of business sponsoring some persons to dent his image.
“Information reaching me is that some persons are making very calculated and sinister plans to coopt the media to launch a Media onslaught against my name, my business interests and partners.
“There is an established link between the people and some of my business detractors. Therefore, such a move cannot succeed, and those plotting it should desist forthwith, else they will be met with the full wrath of the law.
“It is this heinous plot that has necessitated this press conference. I was advised from the beginning not to say anything, and I have strictly adhered to that advice but it has become necessary to let the perpetrators know that I am fully aware and would be ready to deploy the full arm of the law against them.
“But considering what is happening at the moment, there are certain things I find very reprehensible and difficult to understand. From what I have gathered, some people have been paid—some have even been briefed on what to do, and they were given money for that purpose which I am aware of.

Gentlemen of the Press,
My attention has been drawn with grave concerns to a sinister campaign of calumny which is been orchestrated against my person in tacit collaboration with a section of the media.
I would like to bring your attention to what is at play here as a pure case of unnecessary witchcraft by certain individuals trying to denigrate my hard earned reputation. Their planned outburst is a product of paranoia – an uncomfortable exertion arising from their witch hunt against my business ventures which they have failed woefully.
I would like to put the nation and the media on notice to expect more of this kind of wild witch hunt made by such persons but I will fight viciously back using the full length of the law. The attack is not coming as a surprise to me, as it has become the trend for business competitors and certain elements to attempt yo discredit whom God has blessed.
These shenanigans are not strange. They appear to play out in cycles, particularly when they see God’s hand and grace virtually in all you do.
I’m glad this action is taking place today! There are too many people who are comfortable with saying the most obscene, inhumane things about successful people. Especially those users who rely on sharing false information and presenting it as factual statements to justify their hate.
Proverbs 24:15-16 says: “Do not lie in wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; Do not destroy his resting place; For a ) righteous man falls seven times, and rises again, But the wicked and unrighteous stumble in time of calamity”.
I will neither watch nor sleep and allow anyone tarnish my image. I have adequately informed my legal team to be at alert to do the needful. The law must take its cause.
This is a warning to those who mess with God’s people!
