In a resounding display of unity and purpose, leaders from the Enugu North Senatorial District, also known as Nsukka Zone, have thrown their weight behind Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, for a second term post-2027. Their endorsement underscores the governor’s remarkable strides in transforming the zone and Enugu State as a whole since assuming office in May 2023.
Meeting at the prestigious Adada House in Nsukka, the Enugu State Coalition for Progress (Nsukka Branch) gathered an impressive array of stakeholders, including academics, business leaders, traditional rulers, socio-cultural groups, and politicians from across the six local government areas of the zone.
Over 700 key figures, including Chief Okechukwu Itanyi, Senator Chuka Utazi, and Dr. Mike Ajogwu SAN, signed a communique highlighting the governor’s monumental achievements and their unwavering commitment to his leadership.

Monumental Projects Transforming Nsukka
The Nsukka Zone has emerged as the highest beneficiary of Governor Mbah’s developmental initiatives. Major projects such as the ongoing dualization of the Enugu-Ugwogo Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road, the construction of 102 Smart Green Schools, and the establishment of 102 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centers across all six council areas have significantly improved infrastructure, education, and healthcare in the region.
Additionally, the coalition praised the governor’s efforts to enhance connectivity through the reconstruction of the Ama Ngwo-Eke-Oghe-Iwollo-Umulokpa Road and the new Owo-Ama Nkanu-Ubahu-Mbu-Neke dual carriageway. These projects aim to boost economic activities and make Nsukka a hub for investment and development.
Enhancing Security and Business Opportunities
Governor Mbah’s administration has also prioritized security, establishing the Enugu State Command and Control Center to track criminal activities statewide. This initiative has not only bolstered safety but has also made Enugu State an attractive destination for investors, businesses, and tourists.
Leaders from the zone commended the governor’s innovative approach to governance, particularly his efforts to transition Enugu from a civil service-oriented economy to an industrial powerhouse. With an internally generated revenue projected to surpass N600 billion by the end of 2025, the state is on track to becoming a leading economic hub in Nigeria.
Broad-Based Support Across Party Lines
The endorsement of Governor Mbah has transcended political affiliations, with key leaders from various parties voicing their support. Senator Chuka Utazi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emphasized that the governor’s achievements resonate with all well-meaning Nsukka indigenes, regardless of political leanings.
“I have seen the governor’s transformative work firsthand, from the improved road networks to the development of key infrastructure. It’s clear that Governor Mbah is the right leader for Nsukka and Enugu State as a whole,” Senator Utazi stated.
A Vision for the Future
The coalition highlighted several key initiatives under Governor Mbah’s leadership, including the introduction of Enugu Air, a game-changing project expected to enhance tourism and economic opportunities. Other initiatives, such as the Nsukka Central Terminal Station, the 300-bed international hospital, and the International Conference Centre, are set to position Enugu as a leading destination for medical tourism and business activities in Nigeria.
Dr. Dan Shere, one of the prominent voices at the meeting, praised the governor’s visionary leadership, noting that Nsukka’s transformation is evident in every sector, from transportation to education and healthcare.
Unified Voice for Progress
In a unanimous vote, the leaders endorsed a motion moved by Chief Itanyi to support Governor Mbah for another term. The coalition emphasized that only Mbah’s leadership could ensure the completion of these transformative projects, which are already reshaping Nsukka and the wider Enugu State.
