The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has sounded a powerful warning about the insidious corruption within Nigeria’s procurement process under the President Bola Tinubu administration, describing it as a significant threat to democracy and national progress.
In a passionate press statement dated April 15, 2025, and signed by Comrade Muhammed Ishaq, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, the PRP did not mince words about the systemic erosion of integrity in governance.
“It has become painfully evident that the very systems designed to safeguard public funds and ensure accountability have been systematically eroded,” the statement declared. The PRP highlighted that manipulation within the procurement process has reached all levels of government, transforming it into a “mockery of transparency and fairness.”
Referring to revelations shared by former Senator Babafemi Ojudu, the PRP brought attention to the alarming trend of officials awarding contracts to themselves or companies owned by associates. “When those who issue contracts are also the same individuals executing and overseeing them, the potential for abuse is staggering,” the PRP said. This malpractice, the party argued, has led to inflated costs, misappropriated resources, and substandard projects—all at the expense of the public.
The PRP expressed deep concern about the consequences of this corruption, which have left Nigeria grappling with abandoned infrastructure, phantom health facilities, and schools that exist only on paper. “Every wasted resource is a blow to the promise of progress and a direct assault on the welfare of Nigerians, particularly the most vulnerable among us,” the party warned.
In its statement, the PRP underscored the urgent need for action to reclaim the principles of transparency, competition, and independent oversight in procurement processes. It rallied Nigerians to unite and demand accountability from government officials at every level, declaring, “Democracy is not merely about exercising our right to vote; it is fundamentally about how diligently we manage public resources in between elections.”
The call-to-action concluded with a plea for citizens to join forces in the fight against corruption and restore hope for a better Nigeria. “Let us come together to reclaim our democracy from the clutches of impostors and restore the hope of progress for all Nigerians,” the PRP proclaimed.
This powerful message from the PRP shines a spotlight on the urgent need for reform and accountability in Nigeria’s governance structures, as the party vows to continue its battle against institutional corruption. The question now is whether these words will ignite the change Nigeria so desperately needs.
