The Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) has sent powerful Easter greetings to Christians across Nigeria and around the world, urging a renewed commitment to national unity, fervent prayers for the nation, and an unwavering defense of truth and press freedom.
In a statement signed by National Secretary Mr. Rowland Olonishuwa and shared with journalists in Ilorin, the Guild emphasized that Easter’s deep spiritual meaning—Christ’s resurrection—is a shining symbol of hope, sacrifice, and renewal.
“Easter is a sacred season that underscores the triumph of truth over falsehood, light over darkness, and life over death,” NGIJ declared.
They called on Christians to reflect deeply on the core values of compassion, forgiveness, humility, and sacrifice during this holy season—and to channel prayers toward Nigeria’s healing, unity, and progress.
Reaffirming its mission, the Guild stressed its unwavering commitment to investigative journalism, the defense of press freedom, and the protection of Nigeria’s democratic ideals.
“As journalists, especially in this sacred season, we must rededicate ourselves to truth, fairness, and holding power accountable,” the statement read. “The resurrection of Christ reminds us that truth, no matter how buried, always rises. This should inspire our work as guardians of transparency and justice.”
The NGIJ further appealed to Nigerian leaders to uphold the independence of the media and foster an environment where journalists can work freely, without fear or intimidation.
As the Easter season unfolds, the Guild called on Nigerians of all faiths—Christians, Muslims, and others—to unite in building a more peaceful, just, and prosperous nation.
The NGIJ wished all Christian faithful a joyful and hope-filled Easter celebration, rich with blessings and renewal.
