The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a strong condemnation of Edo State Governor Monday Ekpebholo, calling for his immediate resignation following the reported allocation of N6 billion as compensation to individuals described by IPOB as Fulani terrorists.
In a statement released today by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group criticized the governor’s decision to compensate the Northern hunters, whom they allege have been responsible for widespread violence, including the destruction of farms and mass killings across Edo and other Indigenous communities.
IPOB alleged that Governor Ekpebholo’s administration had “betrayed” the people of Edo State by handing over local vigilantes to Fulani authorities, leading to their deaths, and accused the governor of serving the interests of the so-called “Fulani Caliphate” at the expense of his constituents’ safety.
“The reckless behavior of Governor Monday Ekpebholo has put the security of Edo State residents at grave risk,” the statement read. “His disgraceful actions signal an open invitation to Fulani terrorists to invade and seize control of Edo land.”
The group urged Edo citizens to demand the governor’s resignation to prevent further insecurity. IPOB also called on Southern and Middle Belt leaders to “equip their youth” to resist what they described as an ongoing “Fulani conquest agenda,” warning that negotiations and payments to armed groups would only embolden further violence.
IPOB further stated that while Northern groups have allegedly threatened retaliation against Ndigbo communities in the North following recent tensions, they are prepared to defend themselves and warned that any attacks would be met with equivalent force.
Reiterating their position, IPOB condemned the use of state funds to compensate individuals they described as “human hunters” and criticized the reported sacrifice of Uromi Vigilantes, asserting that no compensation had ever been offered for the many Southern victims of Fulani-related violence.
“The Governor of Edo State must step down, as he has effectively sold Edo State to the Fulani Caliphate,” the statement concluded.
Governor Ekpebholo’s administration has not yet publicly responded to IPOB’s allegations at the time of this report.
