The Kogi State Government has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of His Holiness, Pope Francis, joining millions of Catholic faithful and Christians worldwide in mourning the revered religious leader.

In a statement released on Sunday, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, on behalf of the government and the people of Kogi State, extended his heartfelt condolences to the Vatican, the global Catholic community, and people of faith everywhere who have been touched by the pontiff’s death.

Governor Ododo described Pope Francis as a towering figure whose life embodied humility, moral clarity, and a steadfast commitment to peace and the dignity of humanity. “He was not only a spiritual shepherd to over a billion Catholics but also a tireless advocate for justice, compassion, and unity across all divides,” the Governor said.

Highlighting the global impact of Pope Francis’s ministry, Governor Ododo recalled the late pontiff’s unwavering voice during times of crisis, and his efforts to bring healing and hope to a fractured world. “His life was a testament to the power of faith, unity, and love for mankind,” he noted.

The statement, signed by Kingsley Fanwo, Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, emphasized the government’s prayer that Pope Francis’s legacy would continue to inspire global efforts toward peace, dialogue, and mutual understanding.

“May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
