Human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has launched a blistering attack on the administration of President Bola Tinubu, accusing it of presiding over the final collapse of Nigeria.
In a no-holds-barred interview monitored on Symfoni, Sowore declared, “The Tinubu regime came to bury Nigeria after Buhari killed it. And people are still playing along with them. I don’t know what is wrong with Nigerians.”
He expressed outrage at what he described as the complicity and complacency of many Nigerians who continue to tolerate the current political leadership. According to him, superficial protests and half-hearted opposition would not salvage the country.
“We are not playing,” Sowore said emphatically. “That’s why we are not engaging in all this side hanky-panky about protests. When we are ready and when Nigerians are ready, we are interested in a revolution. We have made that very clear. Because that’s what can end this nonsense in our body polity.”
The fiery activist also took a swipe at Nigeria’s current opposition figures, branding them as self-serving opportunists rather than genuine agents of change.
“Not the kind of opposition where people like El-Rufai… those ones are not opposition. Those ones are coalitions of hungry people. The moment they are offered what they want, they will go back to where they came from,” he stated, criticising the recycled political actors seeking to form new coalitions.
Sowore went further to accuse former Buhari cabinet members of attempting to rebrand themselves instead of facing justice.
“Most of them are Buhari cabinet members who are supposed to be in prison. They are forming coalitions instead of forming a union of prisoners. So what do you expect from that?” he asked pointedly.
On the ongoing security crisis in the country, particularly in the South-East, Sowore condemned the government’s heavy militarisation of the region while allowing insecurity to fester unchecked elsewhere.
“It is the Nigerian government that goes to the South-East to militarise it. Instead of releasing Nnamdi Kanu — which would have solved a big problem — they deploy armies. In the North, after 100 kilometers, you can’t even find the army,” he lamented.
Sowore concluded by insisting that true progress for Nigeria could only begin when leaders genuinely chosen by the people are allowed to emerge — not recycled elites clinging to power.
