In a bold and fiery statement released in Abuja on Friday, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has called on Nigerians to unite in what it described as a “people’s revolution” aimed at ending years of political dysfunction and reclaiming the country through the 2027 General Elections.
Titled “The People’s Power: Uniting to End Political Madness in Nigeria”, the CUPP’s press release painted a grim picture of the current state of governance in the country, blaming entrenched political elites for widespread poverty, insecurity, unemployment, and institutional decay.
“For too long, politicians in power have ignored the daily struggles of ordinary Nigerians,” the statement reads, “perpetuating a cycle of incompetence, corruption, and neglect.” The coalition asserts that the frustration and anger of the Nigerian populace has reached a critical mass, and that 2027 presents a defining opportunity for change through mass voter participation.
CUPP National Secretary, Chief Peter Ameh, emphasized the need for citizens to mobilize beyond tribal, religious, and regional lines to vote out “incompetent and self-serving leaders.”
He said the 2023 elections already offered a glimpse into the power of a united electorate, citing Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s performance as evidence of a growing appetite for accountability and reform.
Despite systemic challenges, including flawed electoral processes and the use of “federal might” to suppress opposition, the CUPP highlighted successes such as Rabiu Kwankwaso’s victory in Kano as proof that a well-organized, people-driven movement can defy political machinery.
The group called for a mass coalition of youth, workers, professionals, and market traders to protect the integrity of the electoral process in 2027. “The ballot box remains the most potent weapon for change,” the release declares. “In 2027, it will be wielded with precision and purpose.”
CUPP urged Nigerians to reject leaders who continue to prioritize personal gain over national welfare and warned against the dangers of political defection and lack of ideological consistency among elected officials. “Governors and lawmakers switching parties for convenience has eroded public trust. It’s time for the people to reclaim their power,” said Ameh.
As the country moves closer to another electoral cycle, the CUPP is positioning itself as a rallying force for citizens who are disillusioned with the status quo and determined to chart a new course for Nigeria’s future.
“The time for change is now,” the statement concludes. “The people are ready to make it happen.”
