Sir Festus Ahon, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has described the recent defection of the governor, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and the entire state PDP structure to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a calculated and united decision made in the best interest of Delta State.
Speaking during an interview on Yanga FM’s Wetin Dey Happen, Ahon termed the development a “political tsunami,” underscoring that the shift aligns with the broader objective of securing Delta’s future. “In politics, there are no permanent friends or enemies, only permanent interests. Our current interest is to align with the federal government to better serve the people of Delta,” he said.
Ahon emphasized that Governor Oborevwori, known for his strong grassroots support, did not act in isolation. “The decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders and stakeholders. This was a consensus – a unified movement by the Delta PDP,” he noted.
He further explained that the alignment with the APC is expected to attract greater federal attention and developmental projects to the state.
Addressing allegations that former Governor Okowa’s defection was motivated by an attempt to evade EFCC investigations, Ahon dismissed the claims as unfounded and politically motivated. He expressed confidence that Okowa would be exonerated.
Sir Ahon concluded by calling on all Deltans to support both President Bola Tinubu’s federal administration and Governor Oborevwori’s leadership in Asaba, stressing the importance of unity in driving the state’s progress.
