ABUJA, May 1, 2025 — The National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Engr. Bello Lawal, has applauded the dedication and resilience of Nigerian local government workers, describing them as the unsung heroes of grassroots development.
In a statement marking this year’s Labour Day, Lawal commended the steadfast efforts of workers across the country, particularly those serving in rural communities under challenging conditions. “Your unwavering dedication and resilience are an inspiration to all of us in local government administration,” he said.
Lawal praised the synergy between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and local governments, citing “extraordinary milestones” achieved through collaborative efforts.
He highlighted the President’s commitment to empowering local governments as a key driver of positive outcomes for both workers and communities.
“We salute the National Labour Congress (NLC) and all Nigerian workers for their indispensable role in nation-building,” Lawal noted. “The motto, ‘Labour is the bedrock of the Nation,’ encapsulates the vital contributions you make every day.”
The ALGON leader welcomed the landmark Autonomy Judgment, describing it as a step toward strengthening local government capacity to deliver critical services at the grassroots.
He also expressed appreciation for the collaborative support from federal and state institutions, the judiciary, Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as informal sector workers.
“President Tinubu’s leadership has prioritized workers’ welfare and grassroots development, with states aligning with this vision,” Lawal emphasized. “We also recognize the NLC’s unwavering advocacy for workers’ rights and social justice.”
Concluding his message, Lawal extended warm wishes to Nigerian workers: “Happy Labour Day to all our hardworking men and women. Your dedication continues to shape a brighter future for Nigeria.”
