Major Road Closures Announced for Enugu International Marathon on Saturday

Enugu, Nigeria — The Enugu State Ministry of Transport has announced a complete shutdown of several major roads across the city this Saturday, May 3, 2025, to facilitate the International 42km Enugu Marathon. The closures, which will take effect from 6:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, are part of extensive safety and traffic control measures designed to ensure the smooth running of the event, which will host thousands of runners, including international athletes.
In a public service announcement signed by Dr. Obi Ozor, Honourable Commissioner for Transport, the ministry detailed the roads that will be fully closed to vehicular traffic. These include key thoroughfares such as Ogui Junction to Shoprite, Okpara Avenue, Kingsway Road, Ziks Avenue Junction, UNEC to Spar Junction, Monkey Roundabout, Ike Ekweremadu Road to Okpara Square, and Chime Avenue, among others.
Alternate routes have been designated to ease movement for residents and commuters during the marathon. Motorists are advised to use routes such as Police Detective College Junction to Gariki, Uwani Area, Achara Layout, Maryland, Trans Ekulu, Abakpa, Emene, and Toscana Road to Artisan, among others.
“There will be no vehicle movement in the affected areas during the closure period,” the ministry stated. “All motorists, commuters, and residents are advised to plan their routes ahead of time and cooperate with traffic management personnel.”
The Enugu State Government has urged residents to support the marathon, describing it as a landmark event that will showcase the city’s hospitality, discipline, and pride in global excellence.
