The Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP), Enugu State Chapter, in continuation of its sector-by-sector assessment of the administration of His Excellency, Dr. Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has said that it “proudly acknowledges and commends the extraordinary achievements recorded by the administration in the transport sector since assuming office on May 29, 2023.”
In a statement jointly signed by its State Coordinator, Chief Innocent Ezeoha, State Chairman, Dr Afam Ani, and the Secretary, Barr. Ken Ikeh, the CRPP noted that “in less than two years, Governor Mbah has embarked on an ambitious and visionary overhaul of Enugu State’s transportation infrastructure, designed not only to modernize mobility but also to stimulate economic growth, improve livelihoods, and enhance the overall quality of life across the state.”
According to the Coalition, at the heart of these transport reforms is “an expansive road construction and rehabilitation programme. To date, the Mbah administration has completed an impressive 71 urban roads, with an additional 80 projects currently underway.
“These efforts cover key urban centers such as Coal Camp, Idaw River, Uwani, and Gariki, marking the first substantial infrastructure intervention in some areas in over fifty years. Moreover, the administration has launched the construction of the critical 40-kilometer Owo-Ubahu-Amankanu-Neke-Ikem dual carriageway, significantly improving connectivity to Nigeria’s North-Central region. Notably, the government has committed to constructing a minimum of 10 kilometers of road in each electoral ward, ensuring that rural communities are not left behind in the wave of infrastructural development.”
The CRPP also highlighted the administration’s focus on modernizing urban transport infrastructure with the commissioning of four ultra-modern transport terminals strategically located at Holy Ghost, Abakpa, Gariki, and Nsukka.
“These terminals are envisioned as central interchanges designed to streamline both intra- and inter-state transportation, reducing congestion and improving commuter experiences.
“Complementing these structural projects is the administration’s investment in modern fleet systems. The procurement of 150 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses — with 50 already delivered — stands as a bold commitment to environmental sustainability and cost-effective public transport. Furthermore, in collaboration with private sector partners, the state has attracted plans to introduce over 2,000 new taxis, alongside a planned assembly plant in Enugu, boosting local employment and economic vibrancy.”
The CRPP stated that “in a landmark move, Governor Mbah’s 2025 state budget allocates ₦41.1 billion for the acquisition of four aircraft under the state-owned airline, Enugu Air. This initiative, which is further strengthened by plans to concession the Akanu Ibiam International Airport and construct an international cargo terminal, is set to position Enugu as a leading aviation hub, enhancing both domestic and international trade capacity.
“The CRPP is particularly impressed by the administration’s forward-looking multimodal transport vision, which encompasses road, rail, and inland waterways. Plans to revitalize rail transport within the state and activate inland waterway services via the Ogurugu River in Uzo-Uwani — connecting to Onitsha and Kogi State — demonstrate a comprehensive approach to unlocking the state’s trade and logistics potential.
“The appointment of Obi Ozor, co-founder of the renowned logistics platform Kobo360, as Commissioner for Transportation further underscores the administration’s focus on technological integration, innovation, and operational efficiency in the transport sector.”
For the Registered political parties in Enugu State, strategic urban planning is also in full swing under Governor Mbah’s leadership. “The dualization of major roads like the Enugu-Ugwogo-Opi road, the construction of flyovers at Abakpa Junction and Chris Chemist/Old Park junction, and the ambitious development of a 10,000-kilometer ring road network linking agro-processing and industrial zones across the state, all reflect a deep commitment to creating a resilient and prosperous Enugu.
“As a coalition dedicated to fostering good governance, the CRPP recognizes that Governor Mbah’s comprehensive approach to transportation reform is reshaping the economic landscape of Enugu State, opening new doors of opportunity, and laying the foundation for long-term prosperity. We commend the governor for these visionary initiatives, strategic investments, and unwavering commitment to building a sustainable, connected, and thriving Enugu.”
In conclusion, the CRPP urged the administration to “maintain this momentum, ensure the timely completion of ongoing projects, and continue engaging with stakeholders to guarantee that the benefits of these transformative projects are maximally realized by all residents of Enugu State.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to offering objective assessments, celebrating meaningful achievements, and providing constructive recommendations as part of our collective goal of building a stronger, more prosperous, and future-ready Enugu State”, the statement concluded.
