In a chat with Mr. Ogar Solomon Ogar in Abuja, the ongoing construction of the Alifokpa-Akreha road and Okpoku Bridge was described as a historic milestone in Yache’s development, marking the first time projects of this magnitude have been undertaken concurrently in the region.
According to Ogar, the projects were initiated following approval from Governor Prince Bassey Otu, who acted on the recommendation of Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Assoc. Prof. Stephen Odey. The infrastructural intervention, currently underway in phases, began with a 3km stretch—Phase 1—linking the Akreha-Okpoku Bridge to the Alifokpa-Yache-Benue Border road.
Ogar emphasized that once completed, the upgraded road network will enhance mobility, stimulate trade, and significantly improve the socio-economic landscape of the area. “Gone will be the days of navigating through dust, potholes, water-logged roads, and poor drainage systems,” he stated. “This is a transformative step for our communities.”
He further noted that Assoc. Prof. Odey’s commitment to infrastructure reflects a leadership style that yields tangible results. “Infrastructure development creates jobs, boosts agricultural productivity, and expands access to education and healthcare. It’s the backbone of rural progress,” Ogar said.
The initiative, he remarked, represents a turning point in government responsiveness to rural needs. Improved road conditions will reduce post-harvest losses for farmers, improve market access for traders, and enhance connectivity to essential services—contributing to an improved standard of living.
“In following up with the governor, Assoc. Prof. Odey recognized how critical transport infrastructure is to rural development. His strategic engagement has brought real progress to his people,” Ogar added.
The projects have drawn praise from residents and stakeholders in Yache, who have expressed strong support for the Commissioner’s proactive leadership. “Putting people first is the essence of governance,” Ogar noted. “What Dr. Stephen Odey is doing should be a model for public office holders across the country.”
He concluded by commending Odey’s persistence and dedication: “Once again, kudos to Senator Stephen Odey, Ph.D., for not sleeping on this matter. His leadership is a clear demonstration of what it means to serve with purpose.”
