The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, has announced the formation of a Veterans Committee under the leadership of Comrade Mati Ali—a veteran journalist and media strategist with nearly four decades of professional experience.
Comrade Ali, who currently serves as the Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Honourable Minister of Defence, is also the immediate past Managing Director of Radio Jigawa. He previously held key positions within the NUJ, including Chairman of the Jigawa State Council and National Trustee.
In a statement released by the NUJ Jigawa State Council Secretary, Comrade Aisha Ahmed, the following individuals have been appointed to serve on the committee:
Habibu Nuhu Kila – Member
Fahad Muhammad – Member
Salmanu Adamu Rishi – Member
Muhammad Hussaini Kwalam – Secretary
According to Comrade Aisha Ahmed, the Veterans Committee was created to harness the vast knowledge, experience, and insight of retired journalists for the growth and development of the Union. “The committee will serve as both an advisory body and a mentorship hub, while also ensuring the welfare and continued recognition of our veteran members,” she stated.
The committee is also tasked with organizing mentorship and knowledge-sharing programs between retired and younger journalists, and providing guidance on how best to integrate veterans into NUJ activities and honors.
This strategic initiative reaffirms the NUJ Jigawa State Council’s commitment to honoring journalistic excellence and fostering a strong, intergenerational professional community.
