The recent renovation of the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja, now named after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has sparked a mix of reactions from Nigerians. While many commend FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for recognizing the president’s efforts, others question the astronomical cost of N39 billion for renovating an existing infrastructure.

The decision to name the ICC after President Tinubu is seen as a gesture of appreciation for his leadership, particularly in driving economic and infrastructural development in the country. FCT Minister has been instrumental in delivering projects, and this recognition of the Prexident is viewed as a testament to his leadership. However, the cost of renovation raises eyebrows, with many wondering if such a massive amount could have been better spent on other pressing needs within the FCT.

The N39 billion price tag sparked debate, with comparisons drawn to international projects.

For instance, China’s magnificent projects often cost mere millions of dollars, while Dubai’s tallest building cost very few million of dollars. In contrast, Nigeria’s ICC renovation seems excessive, especially when considering the country’s economic challenges and other sectors that require attention in FCT. The purpose of this write up is specifically on cost not the renovation per say. The renovation was well conceived, but cost was astronomical.

While the ICC renovation is a notable achievement, many Nigerians are concerned about the state of rural roads and public schools in the FCT. These essential infrastructure projects seem to be taking a backseat, leaving many to wonder about the allocation of funds. With several rural roads crying out for attention, it’s crucial to strike a balance between monumental projects and basic infrastructure.

President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda promises a brighter future for Nigerians. However, the ICC renovation cost raises questions about the FCT administration’s priorities. While the president deserves recognition for his efforts, it’s essential to ensure that such projects align with the agenda’s mandate.

As the former International Conference Centre (ICC) takes its new shape and name, it’s crucial to acknowledge the thin line between celebrating achievements and prudent spending.

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike’s passion for infrastructural transformation is evident, but the cost of the Centre’s renovation demands scrutiny. Moving forward, the Centre is commercialised to serve Nigerians for their functions, inclusive of government functions. However, it’s essential to prioritize projects that benefit the masses, in view of the present hush economy, engaging and spending on such white elephant project is pinching and mind blowing, rather accepted because the peoples president Bola Ahmed Tinubu is honoured and recognised as a leader with foresight.

Political Commentators, Critics, Newspapers editorials and other Nigerians have taken to social media to share their thoughts on the International Conference Centre renovation. Some commend Minister Wike for his efforts, while others question the cost.

However, naming the renovated centre after the president, is most welcomed and very thoughtful of the FCT. Though trending criticism, has it that, its a strategic and tactical executive sycophancy. Which unfortunately it is not, but a genuine expression of support and loyalty to the President in recognition of his administrative prowess for good governance.

As Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory continues to develop, with Nyesom Wike’s Midas Touch, it is essential to strike a balance between monumental projects and basic infrastructure.

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, may be a notable achievement, but it’s crucial to prioritize projects that serves all purposes and at the same time benefits the masses . By doing so, the Minister can ensure that his spending aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda’s mandate, ultimately delivering a brighter future for Nigerians.

While the ‘Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre’ renovation is a significant project, the cost is mind boggling and raises important questions about priorities and spending. As Nigeria moves forward, it is essential to balance monumental projects with basic infrastructure needs, ensuring that the FCT Administration’s spending benefits the people. The Major road networks of the Minister are excellent, yet the rural areas are asking and yawning for attention. Or is it the “roads very close to the eyes” , are targetted while the interior communities remained without good roads and other infrastructures of necessity.
