The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has issued a scathing condemnation of the escalating violence and rampant insecurity plaguing various parts of the country, accusing the Federal Government of abandoning its core responsibility of protecting citizens in favour of “political distractions.”

In a strongly worded press statement signed by its National Chairman, Falalu Bello, OFR, the party decried the recent mass killings in Yelewata and Daudu communities, as well as deadly attacks on innocent motorists along the Lafiya–Makurdi corridor that links Benue and Nasarawa States. PRP stated that over 100 lives have been lost in what it described as “heinous and tragic attacks.”

“These barbaric acts exemplify the deepening insecurity crisis that continues to ravage Nigeria with devastating consequences,” the party said.

PRP condemned what it sees as a worrying pattern of government inaction in the face of violence, saying: “It is profoundly disheartening that while our people are being slaughtered, villages razed, and livelihoods destroyed, the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC administration remains indifferent or unable to provide the security assurances promised to the Nigerian people.”

The statement criticized the Tinubu-led administration for appearing to prioritize political maneuvering and preparations for the 2027 elections over the lives of Nigerian citizens. “Instead of deploying effective measures to protect lives and properties, the government seems much more preoccupied with political distractions—organizing high-profile meetings, conferences, and endorsements for the 2027 elections—thus diverting attention from the urgent security needs of the nation,” it said.

Highlighting the dire situation in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, the PRP detailed how communities there have suffered a series of attacks since the onset of the rainy season. “Bandits have stepped up their attacks, displaced communities, killed and kidnapped villagers, and rendered farming—one of the main economic activities—impossible in many areas,” the party noted.

It added that on June 12—Democracy Day—bandits launched a deadly raid on Yargoje ward, killing several farmers. “About 30 bodies were recovered and many still remain missing,” the PRP stated, lamenting that similar attacks “have become a weekly occurrence, with bandits operating during the day and walking away unchallenged.”

The party warned that the consistent under-reporting of such tragedies obscures the true scale of Nigeria’s security breakdown. “These unreported or under-reported cases highlight the scale of our insecurity crisis—an epidemic of violence that continues to threaten the very fabric of our nation.”

Calling out the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), PRP said the government’s response reflects “a lack of political will, strategic planning, and commitment to the safety of Nigerian citizens.”

In its closing remarks, PRP issued a stark demand: “We demand urgent, effective security measures, genuine commitment, and accountability from those entrusted with safeguarding Nigeria.”

“The people deserve a government that works for their safety, not one preoccupied with 2027 political manipulations. Nigeria’s security challenges require immediate and sustained action—not empty promises or political posturing,” the statement concluded.

Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, PRP’s chairman ended with a blunt appeal:
“Let it be known: The time to act is now. The lives of our people depend on it.”
