In a renewed push to overhaul Nigeria’s electricity transmission infrastructure and support the broader reforms within the nation’s power sector, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has inaugurated a high-level committee to drive the implementation of its Performance Improvement Plan/Power Sector Recovery Operation (PIP/PSRO).

The committee’s formation, effective June 17, 2025, follows a directive by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), which mandates all key sector players to align with the provisions of the Performance Improvement Plan and the Power Sector Recovery Operation.

These regulatory instruments are aimed at improving service delivery, financial sustainability, and reducing inefficiencies across Nigeria’s power value chain.

While formally inaugurating the committee, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of TCN, Engr. (Dr.) Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, described the initiative as a cornerstone of the company’s commitment to reform and efficiency.

He stressed that the committee’s core responsibility is to ensure the successful implementation, coordination, and monitoring of all projects under the PIP/PSRO program, in strict compliance with the NERC Order and the PSRO-AF Operation Manual.Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has inaugurated a high-level committee to drive the implementation of its Performance Improvement Plan/Power Sector Recovery Operation (PIP/PSRO).

“The establishment of this committee demonstrates our resolve to address longstanding transmission challenges. We expect the members to work collaboratively with stakeholders across the sector to deliver timely and impactful results,” Engr. Abdulaziz said.

Also speaking at the event, Engr. Olugbenga Ajiboye, Executive Director of Transmission Service Provider (TSP), urged the committee to adopt a results-driven approach, noting that the PIP will help define clear targets and benchmarks for performance assessment. “This is about enforcing accountability, enhancing governance, and driving measurable improvements,” he stated.

Engr. Ali Sharafai, the newly appointed Chairman of the Committee and General Manager of Transmission Services at TCN, assured the TCN management of the committee’s full dedication to achieving the goals of the program.

According to him, the committee is poised to ensure TCN’s operations meet international standards and regulatory requirements, thereby creating an environment that attracts investor confidence in Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure.

The PIP/PSRO program, as designed by NERC, aims to eliminate operational bottlenecks, upgrade infrastructure, and reduce system losses through improved maintenance and strategic investment.

With the committee now in place, TCN is expected to take major strides toward delivering a more stable and efficient power transmission network.
