A Coalition of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Support Groups from Cross River State has passed a vote of no confidence on Governor Bassey Otu.
Speaking during a World Press Conference held at Agura Hotel, Abuja yesterday, National Coordinator of the group Comrade Michael Newgent Ekamon disclosed that the action was informed by the Governor’s incompetence, lack of direction and insensitivity to the yearnings and aspirations of the people of Cross River.
He condemned in strong terms, the Governor’s lack lustre performance and inability to deliver on promises made to the people.
In his words “Since Gov. Bassey Otu assumed office last two years , one cannot point at any project that he has executed. His administration lacks direction and therefore insensitive to the socioeconomic predicament of our people.”
He lambasted the Governor for presiding over the economic stagnation of Cross Riveriens thereby subjecting the people to poverty and lamentations.
Comrade Ekamon frowned at the state of Primary education in the state and described it as the worst in the country.
He revealed that Cross River State ranked 29th out of 36 States in primary school enrollment with only 62% of eligible Children in School and far below the national average of 78%.
The Coordinator decried the deplorable standards of education institutions and hospitals rating them below United Nations recommendations.
Comrade Ekamon observed that Malaria and Cholera still persists in the state due to shortage of drugs and dilapidated facilities.
He urged the People’s Democratic Party PDP, to close ranks and work towards taking over the state in the interest of mankind.
He commended the contributions of the Niger Delta Development Commission and past People’s Democratic Party governor’s in the development of the state.
Comrade Ekamon appealed to residents of the state to cooperate and work with the People’s Democratic Party as the party of the future with a mission to deliver the state from its present socioeconomic doldrums.
