Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, has been honoured with an award of excellence in leadership by the Forum of Elected Former Councillors who served during his tenure as Governor of Jigawa State.

The Forum, during a courtesy visit to the Minister at his residence in Kano on Friday, presented a plaque of appreciation in recognition of his historic intervention in settling long-standing severance allowances owed to local government councillors from 1999 to 2023.

Speaking during the presentation, Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Mustafá Isyaku Sholy, lauded Badaru’s exceptional commitment to grassroots governance and welfare. He noted that the payment of the severance allowances marked a rare display of accountability and empathy for former public office holders at the local level.

“We are here today to express our deep appreciation to you, not just for what you did for us as former councillors, but for the example you set for others in leadership. You were the first governor in Jigawa State to ensure we were paid what was long overdue,” Sholy stated.

In addition to the award, the Forum pledged their unflinching support and loyalty to the former Governor, reaffirming their solidarity with him in his current role as Minister of Defence and in all future political endeavors within and beyond Jigawa State.

The occasion was graced by prominent personalities, including Hon. Abubakar Sadiq Jallo, Member representing Hadejia Constituency in the Jigawa State House of Assembly, and Alhaji Ahmed Rufai Gumel, former Chairman of Gumel Local Government.

The event highlighted a moment of reflection and unity among political actors in Jigawa State, as stakeholders acknowledged the enduring legacy of Mohammed Badaru Abubakar’s leadership at both the state and national levels.
