A Business man, Engr. Boniface Okoli, has dismissed allegations suggesting his involvement in a purported transaction controversy carried out against any agency of government. The popular businessman who was said to have been arrested by security operatives, following a false information has said he was spuriously defamed as alleged.

In a statement at the weekend, Okoli, described the claims as baseless and an attempt to tarnish his stellar reputation. Speaking to the press yesterday in Lagos, he said:

“My attention has been drawn to allegations and charge sheet circulating on social media suggesting my involvement in a purported impersonation. I am disturbed to hear this unfounded, false, malicious and trumped up allegation against me.

“The rumour which started as a child’s play assumed a worrying dimension when telephone calls, text messages and visits to my business places and residence by friends and family became unbearable.

“I tried to trace the possible sources of the rumour but could not. I later learnt that the information was trending on Facebook,” he said.

He assured his family, friends and well-wishers in a recent visit to his home State of his unflinching commitment to ensure he gets to the root of the matter.

“While I have consistently chosen to ignore such baseless attacks, the growing concern expressed by family, friends, and associates from across the globe has compelled me to address these unfounded claims,” Okoli said.

He said his integrity throughout his illustrious career as a businessman is unblemished noting that “his stellar reputation, built over years of impeccable trust, cannot and will not be tarnished by these false allegations and incorrect charges.”

According to him, the matter in question was investigated by the Customs and nothing incriminating was found against him as erroneously speculated.

Okoli explained that since then he has not been contacted on the matter and has remained willing to support and cooperate with law enforcement, if required.

“What is baffling is that a matter which occurred and was thoroughly investigated where i established my innocence and non-involvement in any transaction controversy has now resurfaced in Social Media in the form of criminal prosecution. This is beyond his imagination,” he said.

He also noted that to date, he has not been served with any charges, summoned, or formally invited by any court or investigating agency regarding these claims since the matter was investigated and dispensed immediately.

However, he stated categorically that he was readily available anytime in Nigeria to have his day in court whenever he was summoned to defend his reputation and clear his name; reiterating that he has directed his legal counsel to initiate a lawsuit or pursue other legal remedies on his behalf.
