The ancient town of Ekinrin-Adde in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State came alive on Saturday as dignitaries, political leaders, and indigenes from home and abroad gathered to celebrate the 2025 edition of Ekinrin-Adde Day. This year’s celebration was especially historic, as it witnessed the launch of a groundbreaking ₦600 million Infrastructural Development Fund, a bold, community-driven initiative aimed at transforming the town’s socio-economic landscape.

Leading the roll call of distinguished guests was the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, ably represented by his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, who brought the goodwill and assurances of the state government to the people of Ekinrin-Adde.

In his keynote address, Governor Ododo commended the community for its uncommon vision and determination to drive its own development agenda. Speaking through his Deputy, the Governor described the Infrastructure Fund as “a clear demonstration of community resilience, self-help spirit, and commitment to sustainable development.”

“I’m proud to see the Ekinrin-Adde community taking proactive steps towards improving infrastructure and fostering sustainable development,” Governor Ododo said. “This fundraising initiative reflects your dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of your people.”

The Governor emphasized the critical role of infrastructure in enhancing the quality of life in rural communities, promising full support from the state government to ensure the success of the project.

“Infrastructure is the backbone of any developing community. Investing in roads, water, healthcare, and educational facilities is essential for improving living standards. Your initiative today aligns perfectly with our administration’s development agenda for rural transformation,” he said.

A Community United in Purpose

Earlier in the day, the Chairman of the Ekinrin-Adde Day Organizing Committee and renowned journalist, Mr. Babajide Kolade Otitoju, set the tone for the celebration, underscoring the importance of unity, culture, and progress.

“This annual event is more than a celebration of our rich cultural heritage; it is a reaffirmation of our unity and shared responsibility towards the development of our homeland,” Otitoju said. “Despite our diversity, we remain one in vision, one in purpose.”

According to him, the funds raised will go into key infrastructural projects such as road rehabilitation, healthcare delivery, educational development, and water supply, all aimed at improving the living conditions of the people.

The 2025 Ekinrin-Adde Day drew an impressive crowd of notable political figures and friends of the community from across Nigeria. Among the dignitaries in attendance were:

Ododo Commends Security Agencies, Reassures Citizens

In his speech, Governor Ododo also took time to commend the efforts of Kogi State’s security agencies for their ongoing crackdown on criminal activities across the state. He cited the recent arrest of 26 suspected kidnappers and their collaborators as a major breakthrough.

“We are focused, determined, and committed to making Kogi State free from all forms of crime. Our people must be able to sleep with their two eyes closed and go about their businesses freely,” the Governor declared.

He further warned criminal elements to steer clear of Kogi State, reiterating his administration’s zero-tolerance policy for crime.

“Kogi is not and will never be a safe haven for criminals. We are out for a full-blown war against crime, and we urge citizens to support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.”

A Celebration of Culture and Heritage

Beyond the fundraising and speeches, the day was rich with cultural displays, traditional music, colorful dances, and various exhibitions showcasing the heritage and history of the Ekinrin-Adde people.
