As tributes pour in from across Delta State and beyond, former Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa is celebrated for visionary leadership, humility, and statesmanship.
The state’s immediate past Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, CON, was showered with glowing tributes and warm birthday felicitations on the occasion of his 66th birth anniversary on July 8, 2025, with top government functionaries, political allies, and former associates paying homage to his legacy of service, transformational leadership, and exemplary character.
Leading the chorus of celebration was his successor, Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, who described Dr. Okowa as a visionary leader, astute politician, and committed statesman whose leadership style continues to resonate throughout Delta State and the nation.
In a congratulatory message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori lauded the former governor for laying the foundation for sustainable growth in Delta through his eight-year tenure marked by prudent governance, people-centered policies, and strategic infrastructural development.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Delta State, I heartily rejoice with our highly respected leader and elder statesman, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, on the joyous occasion of his 66th birthday,” Oborevwori said.
“As an exemplary leader, a man of discipline, political maestro and patriot, your life is a shining example of humility, integrity, and sacrifice. Your contributions to the development of Delta and Nigeria are both admirable and enduring.”
Governor Oborevwori extolled Okowa’s political journey which began at the grassroots level, noting his unwavering dedication as a Local Government Chairman, Commissioner, Secretary to the State Government, Senator, and Governor. He prayed that God grants the celebrant long life, strength, and wisdom to continue rendering valuable service to the nation and humanity.
“As you mark this new milestone, we celebrate the grace of God upon your life and your many accomplishments. May your days be long, your legacy preserved, and your efforts rewarded with peace, joy, and continued fulfillment,” Oborevwori added.
Joining in the birthday celebration, Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, paid tribute to Okowa’s enduring mentorship and leadership. Aniagwu, who served as Chief Press Secretary and Commissioner for Information during Okowa’s administration, described the former governor as a “father figure,” a “great leader,” and a “source of personal inspiration.”
In a heartfelt Facebook message, Aniagwu wrote:
“Happy Birthday to my wonderful leader and mentor! With a heart full of gratitude, I wish you a fantastic year ahead filled with happiness, fulfilment, and continued success. I remain grateful for the guidance and inspiration you have consistently provided to me. Your leadership and unwavering support have left a lasting imprint on my life and career.”
Praising Dr. Okowa’s accomplishments in governance and public service, Aniagwu noted that his humility, wisdom, and commitment to the common good continue to inspire a new generation of leaders. Concluding his message with reverence, Aniagwu hailed him as “Ekwueme”—one who speaks and stands by his word.
Former Deputy Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Dcn. Barr. Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, also joined in the celebration, offering warm wishes and recalling their joint years in office as a “transformative era” in the state’s history.
“Serving alongside you was a privilege I will always value,” Otuaro stated in a tribute. “Your visionary leadership, calm disposition, and deep commitment to the people laid a solid foundation for sustainable development in Delta State.”
He prayed for Dr. Okowa’s continued good health and fulfillment as he transitions into a post-office phase of life, saying, “As you celebrate today, may the Lord bless you with renewed strength and lasting peace. The years ahead hold promise, and I trust that your wisdom will continue to be a light to many.”
Senator Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, who governed Delta State from 2015 to 2023 and was the Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election, is widely respected for his achievements in healthcare reforms, education, job creation, and infrastructural renewal, as well as his inclusive governance philosophy.
As the tributes poured in, one common thread ran through all the messages—deep respect for a man whose life continues to reflect integrity, purpose, and service. From Government House in Asaba to homes across Delta and Nigeria, Dr. Okowa’s 66th birthday became not only a celebration of age but also a celebration of impact, leadership, and legacy.
