Calls on South East Governors to Emulate Enugu’s Visionary Economic Model
Prominent Enugu traditional ruler, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Eze-Igwe William Ezugwu, the Eze Ogbozarra III of Opi Ancient Kingdom and the Igwe of Ibagwa Opi, who is popularly revered as the Eze ka Eze of Idekeland, has extended his heartfelt commendation to the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, over the recent unveiling of Enugu Air, the state-owned airline launched to bolster economic growth and regional integration.
Describing the bold venture as “a revolutionary leap toward economic self-reliance and regional prosperity,” in a statement released on Wednesday, Eze-Igwe William Ezugwu noted that the Mbah administration has demonstrated an uncommon political will, foresight, and leadership capacity in redefining governance in Enugu State.
“The launch of Enugu Air by His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah-led administration is a rare display of visionary leadership. It marks a historic milestone not only for Enugu State but for the entire South East region, which has yearned for bold initiatives that can unlock our economic potential,” the royal father stated.
He emphasized that the aviation initiative will deliver wide-ranging benefits, including the creation of jobs, increased investor confidence, enhanced trade logistics, and a significant boost in internally generated revenue (IGR), all of which align with Governor Mbah’s agenda for “Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity.”
According to the traditional ruler: “With Enugu Air connecting key cities like Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Kano, and with plans for airport concessioning and a cargo terminal underway, Enugu is now positioned to become the true economic hub of the South East. This is the kind of audacity in governance that our people need.”
Eze ka Eze of Idekeland praised the state government’s infrastructure transformation drive, citing the allocation of ₦41.1 billion to transport infrastructure and the administration’s commitment to leveraging aviation as a tool for trade expansion, tourism, and global competitiveness.
“From road construction and smart schools to economic reforms and now an airline, the Mbah administration is writing a new narrative of possibility and pride for the people of Enugu State. I urge Ndi Enugu to continue supporting this administration,” he added.
The monarch also called on governors across the South East to adopt similar innovative governance approaches to reposition the region on the path of economic development and resilience.
“It is time our leaders looked beyond the ordinary and embraced disruptive innovation in public service. What Governor Peter Mbah has done in less than two years in office is a shining example of what visionary governance can achieve. I call on other South East governors to emulate this model for the collective advancement of Igboland,” he declared.
While praying for divine guidance and strength for Governor Mbah, Eze-Igwe William Ezugwu reiterated his unwavering support and that of the entire Opi Ancient Kingdom and Idekeland for the administration’s people-centered governance agenda.
“Governor Mbah has our blessings and total support. As traditional leaders, we will continue to mobilize our communities in support of his transformative leadership. Enugu is rising, and we are proud to be part of this renaissance,” he concluded.
