In a powerful demonstration of national unity, reverence, and shared sorrow, eminent Nigerians from across political, religious, traditional, diplomatic, corporate, and academic sectors have continued to converge on the Abuja residence of the Dan Amanar Fune Emirate, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Ajia, to mourn the passing of his revered mother, Hajia Mariam Ajia.

The late Hajia Mariam Ajia, a deeply spiritual and generous matriarch, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy steeped in faith, compassion, and dedication to family. Her death has stirred an outpouring of grief and tributes, reflecting the far-reaching impact of her quiet strength and moral example.

The Ajia family compound in Abuja has become a center of condolence, prayer, and remembrance as mourners gather to support Alhaji Ibrahim Ajia—renowned security expert, philanthropist, and politician—who often credited his mother as his greatest influence and moral compass. Among the early sympathizers was former Inspector General of Police, MD Abubakar, who described Hajia Mariam as “a mother to all, whose prayers and kindness shaped the lives of many beyond her family.” His words set the tone for a steady stream of high-profile visits.

Alhaji Muhammed Bukar, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Works, led a delegation of senior government officials to pay homage, reflecting on the values of resilience and compassion Hajia instilled in her children. Similarly, Ahmed Dunoma, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, underscored her quiet yet far-reaching influence, noting her impact on governance and diplomacy.

The royal institution was represented by Alhaji Bello Sumaila, the Serikin Sumaila, who offered traditional prayers and recognized the deceased’s role in preserving Islamic heritage and cultural traditions. Nation mourn Ajia mother late Hajia Mariam Ajia

Barrister Ismael Ahmed, Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), highlighted Alhaji Ajia’s enduring admiration for his mother, calling her a mentor whose legacy of service continues to inspire.

Notable figures from the academic and corporate sectors, including Prof. Aruma Oteh, former Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and Assistant Professor Zarna Mohammed, praised the late matriarch for nurturing a family grounded in education and public service.

Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Alhaji Bolaji Abdullahi—also Acting Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—called Hajia Mariam “a rare soul who lived in simplicity but touched both the high and low.”

Prof. Ali Ahmad, former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, described her as a “pillar of strength” whose quiet contributions served the nation.

Islamic scholars, led by Imam Abdulkadir Sholagberu of the National Mosque, offered Qur’anic recitations and prayers for the repose of Hajia Mariam’s soul, encouraging the public to emulate her life of devotion and resilience.

Business leaders such as Princess Aisha Bubaram, Executive Director of First Bank, and Mr. Ike Odenigwe, Managing Director of Centenary City, joined other top executives and representatives from Zenith Bank, First Bank, and various financial institutions in expressing condolences and offering support to the Ajia family.

Youth leaders from all major political parties visited in solidarity, honoring Hajia Mariam for her indirect yet powerful role in shaping one of Nigeria’s leading voices in youth empowerment through her son.

Community leaders and family associates, including Hajia Binta Gaude, Alhaji Ahmed Buhari, Najeeb Tafida, and former Nigeria Police Force colleagues, shared fond memories and called for divine comfort upon the family.

The visitations also included Bashir Ahmed, former presidential adviser; Hon. Gambo Mansir; and Abubakar Danladi Barde, all of whom paid glowing tributes to the woman they described as a “beacon of maternal grace and devotion.”

As the condolence visits continue, one common sentiment echoes from the hearts of all who knew her—Hajia Mariam Ajia was more than a mother to her children; she was a maternal figure to many, a spiritual anchor, and a unifying force whose impact will endure.

May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Ameen.
