Steel Summit Set to Revitalize Nigeria’s Steel Industry

The Federal Ministry of Steel Development is set to host the maiden National Steel Summit, scheduled to hold from Wednesday, 16th to Thursday, 17th July 2025, at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja. The summit aims to rebuild and consolidate Nigeria’s steel industry through inclusive dialogue, strategic policy formulation, and targeted investment.

According to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Chris Osa Isokpunwu, “This maiden National Steel Summit marks a pivotal moment in our national quest to rebuild and consolidate Nigeria’s steel industry through inclusive dialogue, strategic policy formulation, and targeted investment.”

Dr. Isokpunwu made this remark during a ministerial press conference to brief the public and media on the forthcoming summit. He emphasized that the steel sector is the bedrock of industrialization and its health is directly linked to the strength of the country’s manufacturing, infrastructure, and technological advancement.

The summit will provide a unique platform for stakeholders across government, industry, academia, finance, and development sectors to engage on practical steps for revamping the steel industry. “It will provide a unique platform for stakeholders to engage on practical steps for revamping the steel industry and reflects our collective ambition to revive the sector through strategic partnerships, sound policies, investment promotion, and capacity building,” Dr. Isokpunwu said.

The Honourable Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, is leading the initiative to revitalize the steel sector. Dr. Isokpunwu commended the Minister for his vision and commitment, saying, “I wish to commend the Honourable Minister for his vision and commitment to revitalizing the steel sector.”

The Ministry is calling on all stakeholders, both public and private, local and international, to unite in charting a bold and sustainable future for the steel sector in Nigeria. Dr. Isokpunwu urged the media to support the effort, saying, “I encourage you to support us in amplifying the message that the time to rebuild Nigeria’s steel industry is now.”
