The All-Africa Students’ Union (AASU) has issued a strong commendation to the Dangote Group and its President, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, GCON, for what it describes as a landmark contribution to Africa’s energy independence through the Group’s ambitious Namibia Refinery Project and 1.6 million barrel tank initiative.
In a statement signed by the President of AASU, His Excellency Osisiogu Osikenyi E., the continental students’ body lauded the Dangote Group’s “unwavering commitment to Africa’s Oil and Gas Self-reliance Revolution,” particularly highlighting its new infrastructure in Namibia, which is expected to supply fuel to countries such as Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Namibia itself.
“The Dangote Group’s visionary leadership in spearheading projects like the Dangote Refinery in Lagos, Nigeria, and now the Namibia Refinery Project, is a testament to your dedication to transforming Africa’s energy landscape,” the AASU president stated.
He emphasized that the initiatives being undertaken by Dangote are not merely corporate achievements but also bold strategic moves aimed at addressing Africa’s long-standing dependency on imported refined petroleum products.
“These landmark projects not only showcase your group’s capabilities but also demonstrate a profound understanding of Africa’s need for self-sufficiency in the Oil and Gas sector.
“By investing in refineries and other critical infrastructure, you are helping to reduce Africa’s dependence on imported refined products, creating jobs, and stimulating economic growth,” the statement read.
AASU also extended its appreciation to the Namibian Government under the leadership of President Ndemupelila Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah for providing an enabling policy and investment environment that made the Dangote projects possible in the southern African country.
According to the statement, “The Union also extends its heartfelt commendation to the Namibia Government led by HE President Ndemupelila Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, for creating an enabling environment that has facilitated the Dangote Group’s investment in the Namibia Refinery and Barrel Tank Projects.”
Praising the forward-thinking and innovative strategies employed by Dangote Industries, the AASU president noted that such moves “will have a lasting impact on the continent’s development” and assured the Group of the Union’s continued support.
“We look forward to continuing to support and partner with you as you push the boundaries of what is possible in Africa’s Oil and Gas Industry. Once again, we commend your leadership and vision, and we wish you continued success in your endeavors,” the statement concluded.
The Dangote Namibia Refinery Project is emerging as a pivotal node in Africa’s growing push for energy sovereignty, with stakeholders across the continent viewing it as a beacon of private-sector-driven progress and continental integration.
