Professor Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr., Convener of the good governance advocacy group COUNTRYFIRST MOVEMENT, has vehemently criticized the ongoing discourse surrounding the North/South rotation of power, labeling it a “deceit” propagated by the nation’s political elite.
In a recent social media commentary that has garnered significant attention, Prof. Nwaokobia Jnr. argued that pressing national issues like poverty and hunger far outweigh the importance of ethnic and religious divisions.
“Poverty is worse than Ethnicity and Religion. Hunger is worse than the North/South Divide,” Nwaokobia Jnr. asserted, directly challenging the prevailing narrative that prioritizes geographical power shifts.
The Convener further excoriated those who supported a Muslim/Muslim ticket, stating they “lack the moral nexus to preach about Equity, Justice and Fairness.”
He described the “hubris about North/South Rotation of Power” as a mere “euphemism of North West and South West Control of Power,” highlighting the perceived exclusion of other regions such as the South East, North East, North Central, and South South from the power equation.
Prof. Nwaokobia Jnr. raised critical questions about the tangible benefits of power rotation, asking, “How has the so-called North/South Rotation of Power benefitted the Nation and her citizens? How has Rotation Of Power made the nation safer? How has it protected the masses? How has it created more jobs? And how has it united Nigerians and Nigeria?”
He urged “Politricktians” to abandon what he called “tommyrot and deceit about Power Rotation.” Instead, Nwaokobia Jnr. posited that Nigeria’s true needs lie in “NOT Rotation of Power BUT True Fiscal Federalism, Resource Control, Devolution of Powers, and Responsible and Responsive leadership NOT Political Correctness and Debauchery.”
The commentary concludes with a poignant rhetorical question: “Who Rotation of Failure (Power) ep??” underscoring his belief that the current system of power rotation has yielded little to no positive impact on the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
Prof. Nwaokobia Jnr.’s strong statements are expected to ignite further debate on the fundamental reforms needed for Nigeria’s governance and development.
