Intersociety Alleges Plot by Fulani Jihadists to Establish Sultanate in Nigeria by 2075

The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) has alleged that Fulani jihadists are pursuing a long-term plan to impose a Sultanate across Nigeria by 2075, warning that the scheme is backed by a network of 22 Islamic terror groups using the country as a base of operations.
In its latest special report, signed by its board Chairman, Emeka Umeagbalasi, and other leaders, the rights group claimed that these groups aim to obliterate Christianity and indigenous cultural heritage in Nigeria with the support of global jihad funds. According to the report, the plan includes wiping out an estimated 112 million Christians and 13 million traditional religionists, particularly in the South-East and South-South, over the next 50 years.
Intersociety alleged that in the first 220 days of 2025 alone, 7,087 Christians were massacred and 7,800 abducted, mostly from the South-East and South-South, with victims either killed or detained alongside thousands of liberal Muslims in predominantly Muslim northern states.
The Intersociety estimated that since 2009, 185,009 defenceless Nigerians have been killed — including 125,009 Christians and 60,000 liberal Muslims — while 19,100 churches have been razed, more than 1,100 Christian communities destroyed, and 20,000 square miles of land seized.
The report further alleged that over 600 Christian clerics, including 250 Catholic priests and 350 pastors, have been abducted, dozens killed, and between 12 million and 14 million Christians forced into displacement. It warned that Nigeria’s 3,475-year-old Igbo cultural heritage is among the indigenous identities under threat of annihilation.
Calling for international action, Intersociety urged the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, and Canada to impose travel bans on top Fulani Muslim leaders, Islamic clerics, and leaders of the MACABAN. It also called for a review of hundreds of millions of dollars in annual humanitarian, democracy, military, and development aid to Nigeria.
The warning comes as the U.S. government condemned a fresh wave of attacks targeting Christians in Nigeria and other parts of sub-Saharan Africa. Recent incidents include the massacre of 27 Christians in Bindi Ta-hoss, Plateau State, where witnesses say victims — many of them women and children — were burned alive inside a church. “I lost my wife and second daughter in the attack,” survivor Solomon Sunday recounted. “They were burned alive.”
In another attack on July 27, 49 Christians were hacked to death with machetes during prayers in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, in an assault blamed on the ISIS-linked Allied Democratic Forces. Across the region, Boko Haram, ISIS West Africa, and other extremist groups are accused of carrying out targeted killings, forced displacements, and land seizures against Christians.
The Trump administration, through the White House and State Department, has vowed a decisive response, describing the violence as “horrific” and affirming that religious freedom remains a U.S. foreign policy priority. Human rights advocates have described the ongoing violence as “ethno-religious cleansing,” warning of the scale of atrocities.
In Plateau State alone, over 165 Christians have been killed in the last four months, according to Christian Solidarity International President John Eibner. “People are being killed like chickens, and nothing is being done,” lamented youth leader D’Young Mangut. Reports by Open Doors indicate that more Christians are killed for their faith in Nigeria than in the rest of the world combined.
Bishop Wilfred Anagbe, who lost 20 parishioners in a recent attack, accused militants of attempting to turn parts of Nigeria into an Islamic State. Victims’ families say they are “tired of condolences” and want real security measures to protect their communities.
Henrietta Blyth, CEO of Open Doors UK and Ireland, urged the international community to act. “For too long, nobody has been talking about the horrific wholesale slaughter of Christians. The Western world needs to wake up and be outraged,” she said.
