In a bold move aimed at reshaping Nigeria’s democratic landscape ahead of the commencement of Continuous Voters Registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Obidient Movement has officially launched a nationwide campaign titled “A New Nigeria is Possible – Get Your PVC & GO MERD.”
The initiative, unveiled on August 14, 2025 at a press conference in Abuja, seeks to galvanize citizens into action ahead of the 2027 general elections, with a clear mission to combat electoral malpractice and restore faith in the democratic process.
GO MERD, an acronym for “Get Organised – Make Election Rigging Difficult,” represents a strategic pivot for the movement, which has grown in influence since the last election cycle.
According to the National Coordinator of Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the campaign is designed to mobilize millions of Nigerians into organized voting blocs, ensure widespread ownership of Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), and deploy robust mechanisms to protect the integrity of the electoral process.
“In response to the urgent national clamour for the rescue of our beloved nation and the birth of a New Nigeria,” the he began, “the Obidient Movement is excited to announce the launch of a new campaign.” The campaign’s architects envision a future where every polling unit across the country becomes a fortress of civic engagement. “Every Obidient will either lead or join a voting bloc of at least 100 Nigerians in their polling unit,” the release states, emphasizing the grassroots nature of the effort.
The movement’s strategy includes door-to-door mobilization, logistical support for voter registration, and the recruitment of 1,500 values-based leaders to contest elections under the Obidient platform. “In 2027, we will turn out en masse to vote out bad leaders,” the Dr. Tanko declared, adding that the campaign will be fortified by “one million trained vote protectors” and enhanced by “technology, real-time reporting, and proactive resistance.”
Beyond electoral reform, the campaign is rooted in a broader vision for national transformation. “As Obidients, we believe that a new Nigeria is one where food is affordable, communities are secure, healthcare works, education equips our young people for the future, rural areas are connected to markets, women have equal opportunities, businesses can grow without harassment, and the diaspora can return home with pride,” he affirmed. It paints a picture of a country where patriotism is not a burden but a source of joy.
The movement is also calling on every Nigerian who believes in a better future to actively participate. “Do not leave it for others,” the statement urges. Citizens are encouraged to obtain their PVCs, join voting blocs, mobilize their communities, and volunteer as vote defenders. The campaign’s digital presence is equally vital, with a strong push for online and offline engagement using hashtags such as #ANewNigeriaIsPossible, #SaveNigeria, #GetYourPVC, #GOMERD, and #1MillionObidients.
“The path from frustration to transformation is clear,” the campaign message concludes. “We can save Nigeria. We can make election rigging difficult. And together, we can prove that A New Nigeria is Possible.”
The campaign launch marks a significant moment in Nigeria’s political evolution, signaling a citizen-led effort to reclaim the democratic process and build a nation that reflects the aspirations of its people.
