The Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) has announced plans to host a high-impact virtual capacity-building training on Saturday, 16th August 2025, with veteran journalist, respected academic, and former Presidential Spokesman, Professor Zubair Isiaka Aliagan, as Guest Speaker.

Prof. Aliagan, currently the Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) at Kwara State University, Malete, is a prominent figure in Nigerian media and academia.

He is renowned for his pioneering role in establishing and teaching Mass Communication programmes in top institutions, including the University of Ilorin, Al-Hikmah University, Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Kwara Polytechnic, and the Faculty of ICT at the University of Abuja. He has also served as an external examiner in multiple institutions.

The masterclass, themed “Fundamentals of Investigative Journalism”, will commence at 4:00 p.m. and is expected to equip participants with contemporary investigative reporting techniques, ethical guidelines, and practical approaches to uncovering truth in the public interest.

In a statement issued on Thursday, NGIJ Vice President (Communications), Oyewale Oyelola, said the session is part of the Guild’s strategic effort to enhance members’ skills ahead of its proposed Governance Assessment Tour to selected states.

He emphasised that the training would be particularly beneficial to investigative journalists, media executives, and communication scholars seeking to strengthen their professional capacity.

“The NGIJ remains committed to building the capacity of journalists to meet the demands of a dynamic media landscape. We encourage members to seize this opportunity to improve their craft and uphold the ethical standards of investigative journalism,” Oyelola stated.

The session underscores NGIJ’s ongoing commitment to fostering excellence, professionalism, and accountability in Nigerian journalism.
