The Office of the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, has clarified misleading online reports suggesting that the Minister lost his polling unit in the recently concluded Garki/Babura Federal Constituency by-election.
In a statement issued on Sunday, August 17, 2025, the Minister’s office confirmed that Badaru not only voted at his designated polling unit — Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School, Polling Unit 002 (PU 002) — but also delivered victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the unit.
According to the official results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and announced by the Returning Officer, APC polled 188 votes against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which secured 164 votes.
“These authentic results confirm a clear victory for APC at Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School, Polling Unit 002,” the statement stressed.
The clarification became necessary following the circulation of reports that erroneously identified the Minister’s polling unit as PU 001 and falsely claimed that he lost at his base.
The Minister’s office described such reports as “false and misleading,” urging the public, party members, and the media to rely strictly on INEC’s official declarations.
“We categorically reject the inaccurate reports circulating online. The public should disregard the spurious claims and place confidence only in the official results as declared by INEC,” the statement signed by Mati Ali, Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Honourable Minister of Defence, concluded.
