An elder statesman and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Olorogun Morrison Olori, has advised former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, to shelve any plans of contesting the 2027 governorship election against the incumbent, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Olori, a respected octogenarian and one of Nigeria’s foremost businessmen, made the appeal on Sunday while addressing journalists at his residence in Ughelli.
He urged Omo-Agege to heed the counsel of his political ally and former Delta North senator, Peter Nwaoboshi, who had earlier advised him not to challenge Oborevwori’s re-election bid.
While acknowledging Omo-Agege’s constitutional right to run for office, Olori stressed that his advice was rooted in his role as a “political father” to both Omo-Agege and Oborevwori.
“As a political father to all politicians, including Omo-Agege and Governor Oborevwori, I believe Omo-Agege should allow the incumbent to go for a second term,” Olori said.
The APC chieftain, who strongly backed Omo-Agege’s governorship ambition in 2023, emphasized that it would be a “political mistake” for him to challenge the incumbent in 2027. According to him, Oborevwori’s performance in office has already won him the goodwill of Deltans.
“It will amount to waste of time and resources if Omo-Agege decides to challenge Oborevwori. Governor Oborevwori is doing very well and he will be overwhelmingly re-elected by Deltans,” he said.
Olori urged Omo-Agege to set aside his long-term governorship ambition in the interest of political stability, adding that both men should work together for the good of the state.
“Oborevwori is already doing all the things we joined Omo-Agege to campaign for. Omo-Agege and Oborevwori are my sons, and as their father, I am advising them to work together for the development of the state,” he added.
The elder statesman commended Omo-Agege’s achievements in the Senate but maintained that Oborevwori’s ongoing legacy projects across the state were proof of effective governance.
“DSP Omo-Agege should support Oborevwori for a second term and not contest against him in 2027. He should listen to people like me and his friend, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi. President Bola Tinubu is fully in support of Oborevwori for 2027, and fighting his second term bid would be an affront on Mr. President and leader of the party,” Olori declared.
Calling for unity, Olori appealed to Deltans across party lines to back Governor Oborevwori beyond 2027 in order to consolidate his MORE Agenda of even infrastructural and industrial development across the state.
