The Acting Governor of Katsina State, Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to eradicating banditry and kidnapping through stronger collaboration with the Nigerian Army.
He made this pledge on Monday at the Government House, Katsina, when he received the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Olufemi Oluyede, who led a high-powered military delegation to the state.
Jobe stressed that the fight against insecurity was ongoing and far from over, noting that victory would require full cooperation, timely intelligence sharing, and unity of purpose. He announced expanded government support for military operations, including increased funding for personnel and equipment as well as backing for the “Community Watch Corps” initiative to enhance local recruitment.
The Acting Governor commended recent military gains, especially the rescue of 76 kidnapped victims through coordinated air operations, describing the swift response as a model of efficiency. “The Chief of Army Staff has pledged increased support in both personnel and operational assets. We must ensure full cooperation,” Jobe said.
In his remarks, Lieutenant-General Oluyede emphasized that lasting security in Katsina could only be achieved with active collaboration from citizens. “While we have personnel within a limited operational space, we cannot succeed without active support from the people. The Nigerian Army belongs to the people. Your cooperation is vital to making Katsina State safer,” he stated.
The Army Chief also praised the Katsina State Government for its exceptional support to troops and extended condolences to families who had lost loved ones to bandit attacks, stressing that such tragedies only reinforced the military’s resolve to secure communities. He further noted that discussions with the Acting Governor would help shape future strategic interventions in the state.
