The Deputy National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. (Engr) Ikenna Adikibe, has commended Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, for what he described as a historic and compassionate decision to enhance workers’ welfare through a new wage structure.
Hon. Adikibe, who also serves as the Executive Chairman of Oru West Local Government Area, hailed the Governor’s approval of a new minimum wage of N104,000 for civil servants, an increase from N76,000, alongside the doubling of doctors’ salaries from N215,000 to N503,000.
He described the initiative as a bold and visionary step that underscores the Governor’s deep commitment to the well-being of the people of Imo State.
According to him, the wage increase represents a landmark moment in the state’s governance and reflects a leader who understands the struggles of his people and is determined to address them.
The state ALGON boss urged the beneficiaries to demonstrate gratitude by improving service delivery, enhancing productivity, and fostering transparency and accountability across workplaces. He stressed that such reciprocal efforts are vital in positioning Imo as a state that attracts industrialization, economic growth, and human capital development.
He noted that the Governor’s actions have transformed electoral promises into reality, empowering thousands of citizens who had faced daunting economic challenges. He praised Uzodimma as a compassionate leader whose policies provide hope and renewed confidence in government.
Expressing optimism about the ripple effects of the wage review, Hon. Adikibe said the decision would significantly boost productivity in the public sector, stimulate activities in the informal economy, and positively impact the state’s GDP.
He assured that the 27 Local Governments of Imo State are proud to associate with the Governor’s rare display of political will and pledged ALGON’s unwavering support for his visionary initiatives.
