The Kogi State Government has commenced a comprehensive On-the-Job Training programme for staff of the Government House, as part of its broader reforms to digitize the civil service and promote good governance.

The training exercise, which was formally flagged off on Tuesday at the Government House, Lokoja, is designed to equip staff with the necessary skills and knowledge to improve efficiency and service delivery.

In his opening remarks, the Director General of Government House Administration, Adm. Umaru Oricha Shuaibu, Ph.D, FCIA, underscored the significance of the initiative. According to him, training plays a critical role in developing skills, knowledge, and behaviours in individuals, while providing opportunities for practical application. He explained that on-the-job training bridges the gap between theory and practice, thereby improving retention and overall performance.

Adm. Shuaibu expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for approving and releasing funds for the programme. “We need to appreciate God Almighty in the first instance for this on-the-job training programme we just organized. I believe that after this programme, workers will not remain the same again. There will be a change of mindset and change of approach to civil service rules and regulations,” he said.Kogi Government Launches On-the-Job Training to Enhance Civil Service Efficiency

Themed “Strategy and Strategic Management in Civil Service and its Benefits,” the programme covers critical areas including Administrative Officers, Accounting Officers, Executive Officers, Engineers, Nurses, Medical Officers, and Clerical Officers drawn from the Government House, the Deputy Governor’s Office, and the Office of the First Lady. Participants will also be trained on Oath of Secrecy, Communication, Strategy and Strategic Planning, as well as Stress Management.

Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Barr. Muhammad Tanko Musa, commended the Director General for spearheading the initiative. He stressed the importance of regular capacity building, noting that “Training makes way for continuity in Civil Services. Training must be encouraged at all levels. Without human beings, the civil service cannot exist; therefore, strategy and strategic planning are key to Civil Service.”

Similarly, Okeme Abdullahi Jubrail, in his goodwill message, described the programme as timely and commended the Director General for his foresight. He emphasized the need for aligning strategies and planning with government policies and programmes to maximize impact.

The Director of Administration, Pastor Mrs. Praise Akubo, also expressed appreciation to Adm. Shuaibu for the initiative. She further commended the Director of Training, Mr. Olutimehin Gbenga Taiye, and the entire Government House staff for their role in successfully organizing the programme.

The training is expected to strengthen institutional capacity, enhance staff productivity, and contribute significantly to the overall development objectives of Kogi State.
