The Obidient Movement has come out strongly against what it described as a renewed wave of propaganda, lies, and deception targeted at its principal, Mr. Peter Obi, insisting that Nigerians can now distinguish between fact and fabrication.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the movement said that the latest claims being circulated by paid agents are desperate attempts to malign Obi’s reputation. Dr. Tanko explained that on December 9, 2024, he was part of a team that visited elder statesman Afe Babalola, where the defamation case involving activist Dele Farotimi was referenced.

He clarified that the case was withdrawn through the intervention of the Ooni of Ife and not because Obi “begged” as has been falsely claimed, stressing that the narrative is a deliberate lie. He further pointed out that even Mr. IK Aboyi, who was involved in a separate meeting misrepresented by propagandists, has already corrected the record.

According to the Obidient Movement, Obi has never engaged in personal attacks nor condoned such actions. In the case of Farotimi, Obi only expressed concerns about the manner of his arrest and detention, which was acknowledged by Afe Babalola. Tanko emphasized that Obi’s character and conduct remain consistent with his values of truth, fairness, and accountability.

The statement dismissed allegations that Obi gratifies or entices individuals with money, explaining that his resources have always been directed toward education, youth entrepreneurship, healthcare, the almajiri system, and support for the sick, the poor, and the neglected in society. Tanko insisted that Obi’s focus has always been on lifting people out of poverty rather than engaging in patronage politics.

He argued that seeking mercy for another person while also demanding accountability when falsely defamed are not contradictory actions, but legitimate and complementary paths. He described as twisted the thinking that attempts to brand such conduct as hypocrisy.

On the state of Nigeria’s debt, Tanko pointed to figures from the Debt Management Office confirming that by the first quarter of 2025, the debt had risen to ₦149.38 trillion, compared to ₦144.67 trillion in the last quarter of 2024. He dismissed contrary claims as deceitful efforts to distort facts using the collapse of the naira as an excuse.

Addressing the controversy surrounding the leaked “Yes Daddy” audio, Tanko explained that Obi, like any responsible leader, reserved his legal options but chose not to waste years in court, a decision that does not amount to guilt but rather to strategy.

He added that propaganda agents know this but prefer to spread lies. On the alleged WhatsApp broadcast against Lagos, he stressed that there has never been any credible evidence linking Obi or his team to such messages, accusing the same actors of recycling baseless claims.

Tanko argued that propaganda thrives on lies because truth exposes failures. He described those behind the campaigns as failed propagandists parading themselves with all manner of titles but lacking credibility. He insisted that their desperation is evident in the way they repeatedly drag Obi’s name in a bid to attract attention.

“The Obidient Movement will always stand for truth over propaganda, service over selfishness, and facts over fabrications peddled by paid agents. Nigerians deserve better. A New Nigeria is POssible,” Tanko declared.
