The Labour Party has launched a scathing rebuttal against activist Deji Adeyanju, accusing him of trading integrity for personal ambition and aligning with forces opposed to good governance in Nigeria.

In a strongly worded statement signed by Prince Tony Akeni, Interim National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, the party likened Adeyanju’s conduct to “ambition without principle,” which it described as “worse than substance abuse.”

“Ambition without principle is worse than substance abuse. Any mental activity conceived in the labyrinths of ambition-damaged mind which distorts rational thinking and actions, either at a cost to the individual or to society at large, is as dangerous or more dangerous than substance abuse,” the statement declared.

The Labour Party accused Adeyanju of waging a pathological campaign of blackmail against its 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, while seeking political patronage and financial gain from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Akeni, Adeyanju has modeled his tactics after “new mentors” such as Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Media to President Tinubu, and Reno Omokri, whom he described as “stomach infrastructure pseudo-critics.”

“Deji has learned that the shortest route to Tinubu’s lake of federal treasury, bloated by the removal of subsidy, is to volunteer bootlicking services in Tinubu’s sycophancy orchestra or enlist in his infantry of attack dogs trained for the jugulars of APC’s opposition leaders, chief of whom is Mr. Peter Obi,” the party charged.

The statement also dismissed Adeyanju’s recent claim that Peter Obi admitted to corruption during a private 2022 meeting. Labour Party maintained that respected journalist Ike Abonyi, who brokered and witnessed the meeting, has publicly affirmed that no such admission occurred.

On Adeyanju’s allegation that Obi attempted to bribe him, the party argued that any monetary gesture offered during the meeting would have been rooted in African tradition of hospitality, not corruption.

“Even if, without conceding, Peter Obi had offered Deji Adeyanju a physical kola nut or the monetized version of the custom, it is not an act of corruption but a courtesy of custom,” Akeni clarified.

The Labour Party further accused Adeyanju of hypocrisy, recalling that he once praised Obi as Nigeria’s best presidential choice but has now switched allegiance to Tinubu despite widespread violence linked to APC-aligned political actors.

“Only sheer hypocrisy and his vaulting narcotics-like ambition to join Reno Omokri and Daniel Bwala for Tinubu’s employment, contract or consultancy showers can be responsible,” the statement read.

Reaffirming its faith in Obi and the Obidient movement, the Labour Party concluded that Nigerians can see through Adeyanju’s “tinder of lies” and will not be deceived by what it called his “malevolent, duplicitous and despicable misrepresentations.”
