Hon. Alabi Kolade David, the Emeritus National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), has extended warm felicitations to Muslim faithful across the country on the occasion of this year’s Eid Maulud celebration, urging Nigerians to embrace unity, love, and peaceful coexistence.
In his message, Hon. Alabi described Prophet Mohammed as a symbol of compassion, kindness, and service to humanity, stressing that these virtues remain vital in building a harmonious and progressive society.
“The lessons from Prophet Mohammed’s life are timeless. They remind us of the importance of peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and respect for one another regardless of our differences,” he stated.
Hon. Alabi, who twice held the mantle of ALGON leadership, highlighted that his stewardship as Chairman of Bariga Local Council and later as ALGON National President was defined by initiatives in healthcare, education, ICT, job creation, and infrastructure development. He noted that grassroots transformation and people-oriented governance have always been at the core of his public service.
Beyond Nigeria, Hon. Alabi also made his mark globally, serving in the Executive Council of the United Cities for Local Governments-Africa, where he championed regional rural development for global competitiveness. He equally played a key role in the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Presidential Campaign Council in 2023 as Principal of the Directorate of Local Governments.
Drawing from his vast experience and exposure, Hon. Alabi emphasized the need to strengthen interfaith dialogue in Nigeria’s diverse religious landscape. He also commended Islamic clerics, Imams, and scholars for their tireless efforts in teaching values of peace and tolerance.
“I pray that Allah showers His blessings upon all Muslim faithful, particularly those in rural communities across Nigeria’s 774 Local Government Areas and Area Councils,” Hon. Alabi said, urging Muslims to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and committed to civic duty.
A champion of grassroots development, Hon. Alabi remains a member of the Vision 2030 National Plan and has represented Nigeria at global engagements on climate change and clean water access for rural communities. His message during this year’s Eid Maulud reaffirmed his long-standing belief that unity and mutual respect are the foundation of sustainable development.
“As a people, our strength lies in our diversity. We must continue to nurture peace, promote harmony, and work collectively for the progress of our great nation,” he concluded.
