Hon Muhammad Dahiru Ambursa, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kebbi State, has taken delivery of UNICEF equipment for birth registration in Kebbi State.
Ambursa pledged support of ALGON Chairmen for the birth registration initiative.
The event marks a historic milestone in revolutionizing the Birth Certificate Registration Project in Kebbi State. The Training of Trainers Workshop has been successfully held across various locations in Nigeria. It was geared towards equipping State Coordinators, Local Government Focal Point Persons, and others with the right knowledge and tools.
ALGON is in partnership with UNICEF in an oversight process aimed at ensuring that every child counts, every child is recognized, and every child’s right to an identity is protected. The initiative will help build stronger systems for data, planning, and social protection across the nation.
Birth registration is a fundamental right that underpins a child’s access to education, healthcare, and other essential services. It is a critical tool for ensuring that every child is visible to the state and has the opportunity to thrive. Without birth registration, children are at risk of being marginalized and excluded from vital services.
By enhancing birth registration processes, Nigeria moves closer to achieving universal registration, safeguarding children’s rights, and fostering inclusive development.
It has been stated that birth registration is not just a statistic—it is the foundation of every child’s right to belong. It is for every child and so far 9 states have joined with Niger state, Bayelsa state, Taraba state, Lagos state, Kogi state, Gombe state, Kebbi state, Yobe state, as others are on queue.
In attendance were ALGON Chairmen from Kebbi State LGAs, including Pius Uwamanua, Umma Musa of UNICEF, and Okoronkwo Gloria of the National Population Commission.
