Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, H.E. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, has commended the Namibian Command and Staff College for its dedication to advancing defence education and cooperation across the African continent.
The Minister gave the commendation on Tuesday when he received a 26-member delegation from the Namibian Command and Staff College (Course 05/2025), led by Brigadier Benhard Erastus, Commandant of the College, during a study tour to Nigeria. The meeting was held at Ship House, Abuja, and the Minister was represented by Mrs. Bosede Olaniyi, Director of the Joint Service Department.
Minister Badaru reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to share experiences, deepen mutual understanding and foster stronger partnerships with Namibia and other African nations in the collective pursuit of continental peace and security.
He recalled Nigeria’s prominent role during Africa’s liberation struggles and reaffirmed the country’s unwavering commitment to regional cooperation for stability.

Stressing the importance of African unity, he warned against external influences seeking to divide the continent, insisting that only togetherness could safeguard Africa’s sovereignty and future.
In his response, Brigadier Erastus expressed appreciation to the Nigerian government and the Ministry of Defence for the warm reception and for the opportunity to gain insights into Nigeria’s defence policy, civil-military relations, and regional security operations. He noted that the choice of Nigeria as the focus of the study tour was deliberate, citing the country’s leadership role in West Africa and its strong reputation in defence and security studies, which he said were crucial for Namibia’s sustainable economic development.
As part of the visit, the Namibian delegation received a briefing on the Ministry of Defence’s architecture by the Joint Service Department, followed by an interactive discussion session.
The visit concluded with the presentation of a plaque of honour to the Ministry of Defence, which was received by Mrs. Olaniyi on behalf of the Minister.
