A major political and civic coalition is set to formally launch a nationwide Electoral Reforms Movement in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, with some of the country’s most influential statesmen, political leaders, and civil society icons billed to play key roles.

The initiative will take off with a National Multi-Stakeholder’s Dialogue on Critical Electoral Reforms scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, 2025, in Abuja, coinciding with the commemoration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

According to a statement signed by Mallam Hamisu San Turaki for the Conveners, the dialogue is being organized by the National Consultative Front (NCFront) and the Labour & Civil Society Front (LCSF), in partnership with the Nigeria Electoral Reforms Coalition (NERCO) and Partners for Electoral Reforms.

The event, themed “Critical Constitutional Amendments for Credible Elections in 2027”, will be chaired by former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, with former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, GCON, serving as Alternate Chairman.

Some of Nigeria’s most respected voices in governance, law, activism, and political reform are lined up as lead speakers. These include Prof. Attahiru Jega, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), Prof. Pat Utomi, Comrade Joe Ajaero, Dr. Usman Bugaje, Prof. Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, Barr. Femi Falana (SAN), Senator Shehu Sanni, Comrade Festus Osifo, Alhaji Yusuf Mamma Dantalle, Chief Raph Okey Nwosu, Engr. Buba Galadima, Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed, Hon. Amb. Nkoyo Toyo, Comrade Isa Aremu, and Barr. Eze Onyekpere.

The panel sessions promise to be equally high-powered, featuring heavyweight political figures such as Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Mr. Peter Obi, Mallam Bala Mohammed, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo, Dr. Abduljalil Tafawa Balewa, Prince Wole Adebayo (Esq), Ambassador Abayomi Rotimi Mighty, and Deacon Chris Iyovwaye.

The dialogue will be facilitated by Prof. Anthony Kila, Barr. Clem Nwankwo, Dr. Bilikisu Magoro, Comrade Ene Obi, and Mr. Samson Itodo, while coordination of the movement will be overseen by Prof. Pat Utomi, Dr. Abduljalil Tafawa Balewa, Amb. Nkoyo Toyo, HC Ezenwa Nwagu, Past Chinedu Oaks Ukpola, Mallam Naseer Kura, and Prince Chris Azor.

Organizers say the dialogue marks the beginning of a broad-based, non-partisan campaign for constitutional amendments and systemic electoral reforms to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy and restore public confidence in the electoral process.

“This historic gathering will unite political leaders, civil society actors, and reform advocates across divides to chart a new pathway for credible elections in Nigeria,” the conveners affirmed.
