The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, has declared that the movement is fully mobilized and strategically prepared to defend the people’s mandate ahead of the forthcoming Anambra State elections.
Speaking at a press conference held at the George Moghalu Campaign Office in Udoka Estate, Awka, on Friday, October 17, 2025, Dr. Tanko announced the completion of the inauguration of the movement’s polling unit commanders across the entire state — a total of 5,720 polling units.
“Let it be stated unequivocally that the Obidient family is fully on ground in every part of Anambra State. From Awka to Awkuzu, from Nnewi to every community, ward, and village, our grassroots structures are alive, active, and alert,” Dr. Tanko said.
He emphasized that the Obidient Movement, which grew out of the nationwide drive for a “New Nigeria,” has evolved into a disciplined and organized force determined to ensure credible elections through civic vigilance and technological innovation.
“Our commitment is simple: to protect the mandate of the people and ensure that the voice of Anambra citizens is not stolen or silenced. We have put in place robust mechanisms and digital technologies to checkmate any attempt to rig or manipulate the electoral process. The era when results were written in back rooms is over,” he declared.
Vows to Resist Manipulation
Dr. Tanko cautioned that the Obidient Movement would resist any form of electoral malpractice using all lawful and democratic means. He stressed that the movement’s “GO MERD” campaign — which focuses on good governance, merit, and democratic accountability — will guide its conduct and response throughout the election period.
“This generation of Nigerians, this generation of Obidients, will not allow the old order of electoral malpractice to thrive again. We are not just participating; we are prepared, coordinated, and resolute,” he said.
He further revealed that young people, women, professionals, and volunteers have been mobilized and trained to monitor every phase of the electoral process, from voter accreditation to vote counting and result transmission.
Call for INEC’s Impartiality
The Obidient National Coordinator called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to maintain its neutrality and professionalism during the election.
“We call on INEC to remain impartial and professional, and we warn that any compromise of the process will be resisted through lawful and democratic means,”
Dr. Tanko stated firmly.
He also urged security agencies to ensure voter protection, emphasizing that citizens must be free to exercise their constitutional right to vote without fear, intimidation, or inducement.
Message to Anambra Voters
In a passionate appeal to the electorate, Dr. Tanko reminded voters that their power lies in their ballots.
“To every Anambra citizen, we say this: your vote is your power. Protect it. Use it wisely. Stand firm for integrity, competence, and character,”
he charged.
He concluded with a rallying call to hope and unity: “The world is watching. Nigeria is watching. The future is watching. And we, the Obidients, are ready. A new Anambra is possible, and together, we will make it happen.”
The press conference was attended by leaders and coordinators of the Obidient Movement across the South-East, as well as representatives of the media and civil society groups.
As Anambra gears up for what is expected to be a keenly contested election, the Obidient Movement’s strong presence and organizational readiness appear set to shape the dynamics of political mobilization and electoral integrity in the state.
