The people of Ayetoro-Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area have paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, to express their appreciation for his efforts in addressing security challenges across the state and for his presence at the coronation of their traditional ruler, His Royal Majesty Oba Adewunmi Sunday, Ologe I, the Olu of Ayetoro-Gbede.

The delegation, led by Oba Adewunmi Sunday himself, visited the Governor at the Government House in Lokoja on Tuesday, October 22, 2025. The visit was marked by expressions of gratitude, solidarity, and renewed partnership between the state government and the people of Ayetoro-Gbede.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, High Chief S. O. Arowosafe conveyed the community’s appreciation to Governor Ododo for honoring their invitation to the monarch’s coronation ceremony and for his continued support for the people of Ayetoro-Gbede. “We are here this morning to thank you for the good people of Ayetoro-Gbede. We deeply appreciate your presence at the coronation of our Majesty and for appointing our son, Hon. Sunday Faleke, as Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs,” he said.

In his remarks, Oba Adewunmi Sunday lauded Governor Ododo’s leadership and commitment to development, stating, “We appreciate you because you have done so much for us. We promise loyalty and support.” The monarch appealed to the Governor to consider the construction of a befitting palace for the Olu of Ayetoro-Gbede, the continuation of the 10-kilometer township road project, and the rehabilitation of the town’s General Hospital.

Responding, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo praised the traditional rulers for their role in maintaining peace and guiding their communities. He assured the delegation that their requests would receive prompt attention. “The work of traditional rulers is to guide their people. On your requests, I don’t see them as demands but as part of our statutory responsibility,” the Governor said.

Governor Ododo announced that work on the Ayetoro-Gbede township road would resume during the dry season and directed the Commissioners for Health and Works to immediately assess the condition of the General Hospital for rehabilitation.

Addressing security concerns, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining peace in the region. “We will meet with stakeholders to strengthen security measures in the area. I also intend to engage with business operators within and around Ayetoro-Gbede to ensure that our people enjoy the full benefits of their land,” he stated.

He further called for continuous collaboration between the traditional institution and the government, urging the monarch and his council to continue providing guidance and support. “We urge you to guide and support us,” the Governor said, acknowledging the symbolic gifts presented by the delegation. “I appreciate you for the gifts you brought. I see it as a message of goodwill and unity.”

Hon. Sunday Faleke, Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, also expressed his gratitude to the Governor for the warm reception accorded to his people. He commended the Governor for his proactive steps in combating insecurity, particularly in the Kogi West Senatorial District.

The visit, according to observers, further cemented the cordial relationship between the Kogi State Government and the people of Ayetoro-Gbede, underscoring Governor Ododo’s dedication to inclusive governance, grassroots development, and lasting peace across the state.
