In a momentous celebration of tradition, unity, and visionary leadership, H.E. Osisiogu Osikenyi E., President of the All-Africa Students Union (AASU), was officially turbaned as the Dalma of Kodape Chiefdom in a grand ceremony held at the Esu Kodape Palace, Auta Balefi, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The event, which took place on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 10:00 AM, was attended by a diverse assembly of dignitaries, traditional rulers, youth leaders, political figures, and community members from across Nigeria and beyond. Guests convened at Adehi Filling Station by 8:30 AM and proceeded in convoy to the palace, located along the Keffi Expressway just before Goshen, where the turbaning ceremony unfolded in full cultural splendor.

A Symbol of Unity and Inclusion

The appointment of Osisiogu as Dalma was formally announced earlier in an official letter from His Royal Highness Amb. Esu Kodape JP, the traditional ruler of Kodape, who recognized Osisiogu’s contributions to youth development, African unity, and community service. The title “Dalma” is a revered honor within the Kodape Chiefdom, bestowed upon individuals who embody leadership, integrity, and a commitment to communal progress.

In a post-ceremony chat with journalists, Osisiogu reflected on the deeper meaning of the day:

“First of all, we thank God Almighty who has made today possible. This honour represents the oneness and togetherness of the Nigerian state. Those who beat the drums of disunity will be ashamed today. This community has shown that it is very hospitable, allowing everybody from all walks of life to thrive, succeed, and raise their families.” Unity, Culture, and Leadership Celebrated as AASU President Osisiogu Osikenyi Is Turbaned Dalma of Kodape Chiefdom

He emphasized that the chieftaincy title is not merely symbolic but a call to action:

“It’s a responsibility. We have to join hands with the established rulership and hierarchy of this community to push for its development. My duty now is to mobilize both indigenes and residents to ensure that Kodape, and other communities in Karu, Keffi, and Kokona, become better than we met them.”

A Message of Progress Without Prejudice

Osisiogu’s message to the community was one of unity and progress, transcending ethnic and settler divides:

“My message is the same since my nomination and appointment—that of unity, that of progress without prejudice to indigeneity or settlership. We are all united, and we have no reason to fan the embers of disunity. Nasarawa, Karu, and Kodape have spoken loudly that we are one.”

His words resonated deeply with attendees, many of whom viewed the ceremony as a powerful statement against division and a reaffirmation of shared identity. Dalma of Kodape Chiefdom in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State

Political Voices Echo Support

Among the prominent voices at the event was Hon. Ori Patrick Ochioni, the 2023 Labour Party candidate for the Karu/Gitata State Constituency and now a chieftain of the Young Progressive Party (YPP). Speaking on the significance of Osisiogu’s recognition, Hon. Ori, who is popularly Hon. KK, said:

“I don’t understand where you say he doesn’t come from. We are all Nigerians. He has his house here, his family here, he pays taxes here, and he contributes to development. That qualifies him as a bona fide member of this local government and of Nasarawa State.”

Hon. Ori praised Osisiogu’s leadership and influence: “Even among all those coronated today, he has more followership. The palace accepted him because he has shown capacity. We should be proud to have someone like him in our midst as the number one citizen of all the universities in Africa.”

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Hon Ori shared his vision for collaborative governance under the YPP:

“He alone cannot do it. I alone cannot do it. The government alone cannot do it. We’re working to bring at least 22 State Assembly members under YPP so our people can access development and good governance. Come 2027, YPP is taking over Nasarawa State by the grace of God.”

A Celebration of Culture and Community

Following the turbaning ceremony, guests were treated to a reception at DeVic Hotel in One-Man-Village (Koroduma), where the atmosphere was festive and filled with cultural performances, music, and heartfelt tributes. The event was supported by the Young Progressive Party and the All-Africa Students Union, underscoring the broad-based recognition of Osisiogu’s contributions.

The turbaning of H.E. Osisiogu Osikenyi E. as Dalma of Kodape marks a new chapter in the intersection of traditional leadership and modern advocacy. It is a testament to the enduring relevance of cultural institutions in shaping inclusive governance and community development.

As the newly turbaned Dalma steps into his role, the Kodape Chiefdom and the broader Nasarawa State community look forward to a future defined by unity, progress, and shared purpose.
