Defence Minister Badaru Attends Screening Of Newly Appointed CDS, Service Chiefs at the National Assembly

Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, on Wednesday, 29 October 2025, attended the screening of the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff, Lt Gen O. O. Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Maj Gen W. Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral I. Abbas; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal S. K. Aneke, at the plenary session of the National Assembly, Abuja.

The nominations of the Chief of Defence Staff and the three Service Chiefs, earlier forwarded to the Senate by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, were presented in accordance with the constitutional provisions guiding their appointment and confirmation. Newly appointed Service Chiefs Nigeria's Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, attended the screening of the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff, Lt Gen O. O. Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Maj Gen W. Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral I. Abbas; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal S. K. Aneke, at the plenary session of the National Assembly, Abuja.

Presiding over the plenary, the Senate President, His Excellency Godswill Akpabio, led deliberations on the motion for the confirmation of the nominees, commending their professionalism, competence, and distinguished service records.

Subsequently, the Honourable Minister of Defence and the nominees proceeded to the House of Representatives Complex, where the appointees appeared before the House Committee on Defence, chaired by Hon. Babajimi Benson, in furtherance of the legislative screening.

The screening exercise was also attended by the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Maj Gen E. A. P. Undiandeye, senior military officers, family members, friends of the nominees, and other distinguished guests.
