Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, received the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff and the three Service Chiefs during a maiden courtesy visit to his office at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters, Ship House, Abuja.
The high-level visit, which marked the first official engagement between the Minister and the new military leadership, was attended by the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. O. O. Oluyede; the Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. W. Shaibu; the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral I. Abbas; and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal S. K. Aneke.
According to a statement issued by Mati Ali, Personal Assistant (Media and Publicity) to the Honourable Minister of Defence, the meeting reaffirmed the Minister’s commitment to fostering a cohesive and synergized defence leadership anchored on trust, collaboration, and shared strategic purpose.
Badaru emphasized the importance of unity of command and purpose among the service branches, describing it as the cornerstone of effective national defence. He also reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to ensuring that the Armed Forces operate with precision, discipline, and a renewed sense of mission in defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and advancing peace across the country.
The Minister noted that the appointment of the new Service Chiefs by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, reflected the President’s desire for strong, accountable, and visionary leadership within the defence sector. He urged the new chiefs to work in harmony to deliver on the President’s security agenda and restore public confidence in the Armed Forces.
“This new chapter in our defence leadership is about building trust, strengthening operational synergy, and ensuring that every arm of the military works seamlessly toward one purpose — the protection of our territorial integrity and the safety of every Nigerian,” the Minister was quoted as saying.
The visit also served as a platform to align the strategic priorities of the Ministry and the Service Chiefs, setting the tone for a renewed focus on inter-service cooperation, intelligence-driven operations, and efficient resource deployment.
With the new appointments and renewed coordination between the Ministry and the Armed Forces, observers believe the development signals a fresh momentum in the government’s commitment to national security, counter-terrorism, and defence modernization.
The meeting concluded with a shared pledge to uphold professionalism, discipline, and the highest standards of military ethics in service to the nation.
